i passed my nclex in may and i am sitting patiently waiting for news on my I140.i am with ogp when i first joined them they asked where we wanted to go we said the south east, florida or the carolinas the recruiter said no problem but since then every time i bring location up they are pretty cagey about it.i was wondering if any fellow ogp nurses could me an idea of what kind of places they were offered and how close they were to there own preferances.

Where are you ending up in Wales? You would, of course, be better off in the South as it is much friendlier than the North. And they talk with strange accents up there.

It will probably be in the Denbigh or Henllan area. My hubby is a UK national and has friends there and a job waiting for him. I, however, am just the Yankee wife.;) Call me crazy, but I do like the rain.

It didnt dawn on me initially that OGP werent sending us to where we initially chose, not until we got the zone map after our phase one immigration approval. but they could tell us at that time what date we would be leaving the uk, which was to be 9 months later, it actually all took place 6 weeks earlier than they told us, which we were pleased about.

It has actually worked in our favour being placed in an area that we didnt request....who else has had a placement that has been like an 18 month holiday, 24/7 sunny weather, beautiful beaches and warm seas to swim in.

nobody here was interested in giving my husband a job until he could produce his social security number and his green card, which we didnt get until a few weeks after we got here.

by the way Kay....OGP are not the lowest of the low wages, there are 3 other agencys here and we have the highest wage. I personally am better off than I was with the NHS. plus living expenses are definitely lower than back home.

but at the end of the day it is a means to an end as you say, 18 months work in return for green cards for all the family, and hopefully while doing it, its all a new and pleasing experience for all of us.

Passed NCLEX in June and am awaiting I140 but heard nothing. I am also with OGP and requested to go to Florida, which seems to really annoy them. Wanted Florida as my husband has contacts there for setting him up for work They have mentioned Arizona, which isn't a place on our list. Then told me to work out other places instead to go to. Gave them my list which includes Corpus Christi Texas, Savannah Georgia, Charleston and Rock Hill South Carolina and North Carolina. They then came back and said Texas is unlikely as is Georgia. Didn't mentin South or North Carolina at all. They said what about Arizona?? Florida definately not! They also said I had limited my market because of my speciality! I am an Neonatal intensive care nurse. I read that a facility in Orlando was opening a new hospital next year with a 110 bed NICU and OGP deal with them so asked if this was a possibility? Which they ignored! The only thing I got was an offer of an interview for a hospital in Louisana, which had way, way above average crime rate etc. So its just a waiting game. Other girls were I work have got jobs in the US with another agency in California to start next year and haven't even done there NCLEX yet. Wish I knew were I was going and it would be somewhere that I wanted to be as we want to be settled.

What have OGP told you about the length of time between NCLEX and I140 or NCLEX and actually starting work? Just interested as your not the only OGP nurse who has passed NCLEX in June/July and seems to be expecting an I140 straight away.

I know this question has been done to death on other parts of the forum, but I am keen to know what OGP are telling their nurses. I passed my NCLEX in April, all paperwork submitted in June/July and I have been told by my company (not OGP) not to expect anything until at least April 2006. This estimate is not far off the mark as Vermont are now at least 6 months behind in the processing stakes

The only thing I got was an offer of an interview for a hospital in Louisana.

That seems to be a popular destination for OGP to be filling nurses with at the moment. Wonder what placement fees OGP are getting? £15k a nurse is not unusual is it?

Hi Christine,

It was the supervisor in St Jo's who said that the OGP wages were worse than other agencies and the Nurse manager agreed that she had to pay the OPG agency more money to employ than other agencies. This is probably because it is AZ. the other thing she said to be prepared for is that in a 2 week period I may be asked to stand down for a shift if there are too many staff on, but it would only be once every two weeks. You dont get paid for this shift.

I will be earning a lot less money than the UK but then in the long run I will be better off, I am on quite a high wage here.

hi kay, I wouldnt be happy with the loss of a shift in the 2 week period as that will probably be your pay period. I would clarify that with OGP as st joes theoretically are contracting you for a set amount of hours each week, here it is 40 hours, but the way it is supposed to work is 3 night shifts one week and four the next and one shift is supposed to be 8 hours to make it 40. we are supposed to come in at 1130pm. we never work the 8 hour shift so that always gives me at least 4 hours extra anyway, never mind all the extra hours that I do anyway....just put 117 hours in for the last 2 weeks. so 37 hours of that will be time and a half. as we are on a contract that is worked out in hours, the only way to finish in 18 months is to work 40 hours a week for the whole time, if st joes take time off you then you will take a lot longer to finish your contract. there is a part on the time sheet that you have to fill in if the facility have cancelled you.

believe me although you are coming for lower wages, in the big picture once you have settled you will be better off, and have a better lifestyle. no high fuel prices, no tv. licence, no extortionate car tax to pay, and lots of cheaper shopping.

ogp told us if you lost a shift you would be guaranteed to be paid

It will take me 20 months to pay off OGP as I am contracted to 36 hours which = 3 nights. I start on 3rd Jan which is month earlier than expected by me, my contract ends oct 2007.

No they dont pay you if you dont work according to the supervisor!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter time in Phoenix, you will have little chance of getting cancelled. The units are usually overflowing, and especially at St. Joes with all of the trauma.

If your contract is for 36 hours and is guaranteed at that, then you will get the 36 hours. Remember that OGP is paying you, not the facility. Nurse Managers are not always aware of contract specifics between the hospital and the agency. Someone will be paying you for those hours.

yes, I think that suzanne is right and you should clarify with ogp. otherwise you will be there for ever. If the hospital cancels then they should still be paying ogp for your contracted hours so ogp should stll be paying you.

my contract officially ends december 31st, so my last shift will be the 30th and hopefully we will be moving on january 2nd at least. our plans are for arizona, but not set in concrete yet.
