Here's a great opportunity for you guys to vent. I want to know what are the most frivolous/nit-picking complaints or comments that you have received from family members in private duty.

The grandmother that complained that I was too focused on the complex pediatric patient and didn't notice her come downstairs and greet her. Filed a formal complaint too.

Not private duty, but a winner nonetheless. It was the only comment on the whole page when I received my very first ninety day evaluation on my first nursing job. I contested it.

"You don't do a good job of scrubbing out the bathtub". Seriously. I no longer do private duty, and I don't have to scrub anyone's bathtub!

As my wicked witch of the west former manager on a general surgery inpatient unit handed me a recogniton card from a family member for praying with their ultra sun-downed demented grandmother at 0330 from falling at her nursing home and breaking her right hip was 1000% adamant I was her granddaughter and wouldn't calm down until we said our nightly prayers. I smiled thinking well that was awful sweet of the family, BUT in her next breath this manager handed me a written corrective action that I practiced beyond the scope of my license since I am not a chaplain or priest. And when I went to HR to contest it she somehow misplaced my write up and couldn't recall the conversation. Best part is I had my copy of the corrective action and the Ordained Minister license I obtained 8+mos prior to marry a good friend of mine. Less than a week later a formal complaint came in from a mystery patient family member that I had never fetched the tea she requested in a timely fashion. Needless to say I no longer work for that corrupt hospital any longer. Back to the ICU's for me.

"You gave my mother oxynorm liquid, you should have called me"

Still not sure how that was supposed to work. Her mother was in intense pain most likely from angina. Had tried GTN, paracetamol, deep heat rub, mylanta incase it was epigastric in origin. Daughter not an MD
