What is a SETH test?

I, too, was wondering what SETH stood for........

It's a "Successful Exam Taking Help" Test. They're practice tests that are posted in the files of some of the Excelsior Yahoo groups.

Just a warning....... I am an LPN and graduated at the top of my class. I am now an EC LPN-RN student and purchased Lisa Arends study notes on ebay. Overall the notes contain alot of info but there are many, many, mistakes. So should you happen to come across something that doesn't seem correct to you, be sure to do further research. The worst thing you can do to yourself is study inaccurate information. Also, I was a little turned off by her ebay ad which states that it's best to buy from her because she is a nurse (RN) and the others selling on ebay are not nurses they are LPN's. What's that about?

*******News Flash Lisa******* LPN's ARE NURSES TOO!!!! WHAT A LACK OF RESPECT FOR THE PROFESSION!! Maybe next time you should consult an LPN like me to check the answers in your notes before selling them.

I found no such statement on her Ebay page. She also does not have 'many, many mistakes' in her notes. I used them a few years ago when I was in her study group, and found them very helpful.

Her content is quite good, yes, but she does have many, many grammatical and spelling mistakes that I have a lot of trouble overlooking. (I know I'm not the only one!) I often cannot tell where her sentences start and which thought goes with what concept. I bought all of her study guides and found this on all her material that she wrote herself. I am too distracted by the grammar and spelling issues that I lose what the content is saying. Subsequently, I cannot use the notes for study. I ultimately turned to my trusty textbooks and did just fine. You indeed get what you pay for--no proofreading, but the content is good when it is readable. If these things don't bother the purchaser, that is fine. Many people do not care and do just great with her notes. No matter--she got my money anyway. :D That's just my opinion.

I hear you, Karen ... I've been an editor of some flavor or another for many years, and the spelling and/or grammatical errors were big distractions for me. However, I found that the content was reliable, and I was able to get past the spelling/grammar, for the most part. The important thing to remember is that these are someone's notes, period. I doubt anyone could understand my notes, if I tried to pass them along. Sometimes I go back and look at my own notes and scratch my head, wondering what I meant. :D

To the OP -- if you've found glaring errors in Lisa Arends' notes, I'm sure she'd be glad to get constructive feedback like that -- maybe you could let her know what you've found?

Regardless of the errors, she clearly spent significant time and effort digging up pertinent and accurate information. Her notes could definitely be useful. If anyone out there is considering her notes, I would not recommend them as a first-line learning experience because I'm a textbook gal, but many students have done well with her notes. It's a very individual thing.

I bought two of her guides. They were okay, but the bulk of my studying was from the texts. And shell out the bucks for the practice exams - they're worth every penny.

this comment is directly from her ad i have saved in my ebay from when i made my purchase:

most of the my competitors are not even nurses, many are lpn's who have never attended excelsior college.

not trying to offend lisa but, as an lpn i was offended by this. i did make it a point to say her notes are informative but supplements should be used. thank you.

You also mentioned "many, many mistakes" -- were you talking about content, spelling/grammar, or both?

She was an LPN before she was an RN ... I don't think her comment about LPNs was meant to offend, but was there to point out that she has already successfully completed the EC curriculum, and the people who are still LPNs have not had that same EC experience. That statement isn't on her eBay page anymore ... I guess maybe you weren't the only one to take offense to that statement?
