getting fired and then collecting your retirement
Do I think that they would say that up front? No....but management banks on employees being ignorant of their rights. If you go into a situation educated then they probably wouldn't be as likely to take advantage. But there is evil in this world.....even in the world of nursing!!! LOL!

getting fired and then collecting your retirement
Then I would paint a target on my butt then. Having a witness or tape recorder takes away the "he said/they said" element of difficult employee/employer behind closed doors meetings. If I was concerned about my rights being violated I sure as heck would want something or someone who could back up my side of the conversation. If the employer doesn't have anything to hide then they shouldn't be intimidated by either suggestion. But, if it came down to it, I'd have a tape recorder AND a witness.....and also be looking for another job on the down low!

Good idea about the tape recorder, but you need to inform them that the conversation is being recorded. You also have the right to have a second person present at any evaluations or disciplinary meetings. They can't refuse your request....it's federal law.

Textbook questions
Thanks Changeofpace! I hadn't considered the local library! I'm also a big Googler as well. I also have my old LPN textbooks, but wasn't sure if they would suffice. I have a big resource library at the hospital where I work too. I'm kinda new around here....really love the fact that you guys are so supportive of one another during their journeys. I will definately be joining in the fun more often!

Textbook questions
I am beginning my journey of nursing concepts exams through Excelsior. I purchased the TCN study guides and the recommended Fundamentals of Nursing and Pediatrics books. I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight to whether or not it is necessary to purchase ALL of the books recommended in the content guide. I am so nervous and want to have everything I need to do well, but I don't want to over buy either....tight budget and all.....any advice on other helpful materials is appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

Lisa Arends study guides
I know many of you have posted that you have used Lisa Arends study notes for the LPN-RN program, so I'm hoping that you could help. I can open the notes and outlines on the NC1 disk, but when I try to open up the practice exams and quizzes it tells me that I have a I/O error. Other sections tell me that the file is damaged and cannot be repaired. Have any of you had this problem? I have e-mailed her but have not heard back as of yet. Thanks in advance for any advice!

oklahoma lpns and excelisor rn program????
I am an Oklahoma Excelsior ADN student and have been wondering the same thing. In traditional schools you can test out I thought, wouldn't it apply for us? I work full time so traveling a long way for these clinicals will be difficult for me. They haven't even provided a list of available sites. I contacted Excelsior via e-mail regarding information about clinicals and when/how to set them up and they responded that I need to contact them when I'm ready. DUH! I need to make plans ahead of time! It would be very helpful if they would include this in our info packets. If you don't mind my asking, where in Oklahoma do you live? I feel so alone out here all by myself trying to study. Would be helpful to have someone to study with!

Desperately seeking motivation
Hi! I'm an EC student from Oklahoma. I am desperately seeking advice from those students who are also in the program and progressing right along. I just can't find my "groove" when it comes to studying! I have tried several different ways, even some I've read on this board, but I still feel completely overwhelmed! I would appreciate any advice that anyone could offer. Thanks!
