Life after Excelsior

Published

I am one nursing class away from being done with my excelsior associates degree (minus the FCAA and CPNE). I am starting to think about the future and have looked into some rn to bsn programs with the hopes of getting into anesthesia school after that. I am running into a brick wall with all the traditional schools saying that they don't accept excelsior's credit by exam.

Has anyone had any luck going to a more traditional bachelors or masters program after getting their associates from excelsior?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

good grief the only thing i can think about now is the cpne...i will live breath and eat it until i pass it....i applaud you for having the courage to think past it....

I had just the opposite experience. When I talked to two different, large universities they said they required the ASN to come from a accredited instituion which it does and secondly, was to have an unencumbered RN license. I had a BSN 4 semesters later.

May I ask what universities you spoke to and if you did traditional or distance learning?

I hear you. I'm just trying to plan some things out. It is just my nature.

I just called and they said they will only accept 15 credit hours that were done credit by exam.

I am looking at Chamberlian. I want a program that awards basically all lower level requirements, just for being an RN (i.e. as long as you are an RN, you only have to complete X amount of credits). I like it cut and dry. No, well we need to review your transcripts to see what you need to take or, this, that, and the other need to be taken before you can enroll. I don't have the time or patience for that. I found that out when I first went to college. I need X class to me my degree requirements, but X has an A pre-req, A has a B, Bhas a C as so on. I've got better things to do, than playing the college course puzzle game.

Thanks. I am going to check them out, but ouch, they charge 546 per credit hour!

I think University of Texas El Paso has a program that gives credits if you are a RN. I am looking at their BSN program.

SUNY Stony Brook will take them all. You will need A&P and chem to apply.
