We have over 30 signatures so far.. Thanks to everyone who signed the petition. We still need more signatures. Please notify other applicants, your family and friends and get them involved in signing the petition. We need as much support as possible to get folks at SUNY to change their minds.

In case anyone is interested, I did receive a letter from LICHSON last Thursday informing me that my deferment money will be returned to me and that there will be no fall classes. They provided a phone number to call for any questions, but I've been calling since last Friday and it just rings and goes in to voice mail. I have left four messages so far, but no one has returned my call.

I wrote an email to the State Board for Nursing and cc'd the president of Downstate and *******, forgot what she does there. I am waiting for a reply from Board for Nursing and will update as soon as I hear anything.

I do not feel it is fair what they have done, especially since I hold an acceptance letter. Due to their actions, I may lose another three years trying to do the rest of my pre-requisites and apply to other schools.

Luckily, my brother's gf is an attorney and will be advising me as to what my next step should be. Being that I was accepted, it is the duty of Downstate and LICHSON to make sure a spot in a nursing program is provided for me. They don't even guarantee a spot if they do start accepting students again. This is in no way fair and if I have a chance to sue them, I will.

I totally agree with you Vega. That is why I am not giving up. It seems that many people that are in this forum did. I refused to let them push me over and get away with it. That is why I am standing 100% behind the petition. Closed mouths will not get us no where. Vega you have a strong case because you have an official acceptance letter from the school. I believe that it is illegal for them to not give you a spot. Please keep me updated on what is going on. I would love hear the progress. Feel free to contact me as well. Yes, I am fortunate enough to have the acceptance letter and it makes things easier for me, but on the other hand it's like an ant trying to fight with an elephant. I will try my best to fight, tho.

Since I don't have a dog in this hunt am pretty much staying out of it. However will say this: what does anyone hope to achieve by bringing legal action against LICHSON?

Yes, can understand hurt feelings, time wasted, lack of options and so forth, but if you got all your money back (something not always easy in these sort of situations), I'd consider myself lucky and move on.

Think about it: what sort of staffing/faculty do you think is going to be hanging around a nursing program with an uncertain future? What sort of persons will they be able to recruit? What sort of facilites and so froth would such a place be able to offer nursing students?

Bad as many are feeling now (and cannot say I blame you), think how much more worse you'd feel if the program opened up but the education *stunk* for many of the above reasons. Then you'd really be in a tight spot with few alternatives aside from transfering to another NP (not easy if at all possible), or sticking it out and wishing for the best.

At this point in time I believe any staff in the school will be thankful to have any job and the students that were supposed to start may not have any other option at this point, like me. No one is talking about legal action at this time. Those that hold accepting letters are just hoping for the best because that it all we can do at this time. Moving on is certainly an option, but just giving up is not.
