Hello everyone, yesterday the BON called me and told me my license was suspended due to my documentation errors!!! I am so distraught, I had started a new job in the ER (my true love) and was having a great time, I was immediately accepted by the other nurse and the MD's. Now today I had to go to my supervisor and tell her about all this crap..The hospital that accused me of doc errors, that my husband still works there, gave him a dollar an hour raise and a thousand dollar bonus, to "soften the blow" of what they did to me....IS THAT NOT CROOKED OR WHAT??? They feel guilty for this, but now I am out of work and I dont know the details of what the BON wants me to do...it cant be rehab or anything like that because the problem was a couple of documentation errors!! I dont understand. Maybe if I was a druggie I would get off easier. I dont know what to do... I need advice on this. There were many drugs also missing at the hospital, I was cleared of that, but everyone thinks thats why I got fired. Now people at other hosp in the area are talking "about the nurse that was fired because she was doing drugs". How can i clear my name, I love nursing, I want to return but I cant even think straight right now.
lisa, i am so sorry that this has not resolved itself and seems to be getting worse. i'm with the others, something does not seem right here. i believe to protect themselves legally, they need to send something in writing to you. a phone call is not going to do it. like others have said, one or two documentation errors isn't gonna get you as much as suspended. i would confirm with the bon in your state, see if your license is suspended. i believe it is possible that someone is playing a cruel prank on you.
overall, something is not right here. something is missing...
we are with you, but please please please... contact an attorney asap!!! the longer you go w/o representation, the more damage could be done.
best of luck and please keep us updated!

I, too, live in louisiana. I just reread over the rules/regs of the BON...situations that would ultimately lead to a license susupension are pretty involved processes, with several steps prior to that...including an investigation and possibly a hearing...with you aware of the process as it is occurring...and ultimately if some decision is made...a formal written agreement re: the disciplinary action and what may be done in the future to reinstate your license....also, you can go on the la BON website...put in your ss# and it should tell you if your license is active or suspended.

This exact thing is happening to me right now. I have been a nurse for 4 years, helped this new surgical hospital in the set up of the Pacu, been working there for 1 1/2 years now, no complaints, very respected by everyone in the facility-----untill narc discrepencies started appearing on the old-timey sign out sheet, othe nurses forgot to sign my wasteages when we got real busy, but they always covered each others butt, not mine, now i look like the only one with a problem. passed 3 drug screens over a 4 week period, they decided to fire me for documentation narcotic descrepencies, (about 12 over a 5 month period) after they harassed me, accused me of taking the drugs, being an addict, etc etc... my husband is a scrub tech there and he was harassed about me and our home life, if I acted weird, drugged, did I have syringes at home, all kinds of crappy questions. Then they decided they could be sued for defamation of character and just fired me over the documentation errors. now they said they have to turn me in to the BON, just to make life worse. The bad thing is the DON and the administrator at the facility are the only ones who researched the incidences, they did not involve any authorties what so ever (DEA, DHH, local police) I feel like they did not follow due process or something. it was like I was guilty untill proven innocent?? Now they fire me for documentation yada yada yada and the entire city thinks I have been a drug abuser, and I havent, any support or advice out there??

Everyone at the hospital thinks I was fired for narcotics abuse, not for the doc errors, and I live in an average sized city, and I KNOW rumors are going to fly!!! I already started a new job....but I am just waiting for the BON to knock on my door....I just want peace of mind and my normal, boring life back!!! thanks for listening...
I am still waiting to hear from the BON, its been three weeks since my ex employer accused to report me for my errors. While my husband still works there, poor baby, he is harassed every day, the other day the CEO and DON pulled him into their office and asked if there was anything they could do to make things better, they sugessted money, a raise. He was very insulted and it was clear they feel guilty about the way they treated me. And I hope they do, I hope none of them can sleep at night and when they close their eyes, they see my crying face, pleeding for a second chance, to prove my self. Pretty brutal huh, but they have almost ruined my life, definately my peace of mind that we all take for granted. what to do.........

I'm in agreement with a lot of the other responses. Something sounds fishy here. The first thing I would do would be to call the BON and find out if they were the ones who really called you. Someone may be playing a practical joke on you (not much of a joke). While you have the BON on the horn ask them what their procedure is when disciplining a licensee. In most states, you would be notified in writing about what is going on and given the opportunity to request a hearing to present your side of the issue. If you have made serious medication or documentation errors you should have been notified by your employer about them as well. Your employment would have been in jeopardy long before your license was.
How is it that all kinds of people are talking about this? Who else beside you knows anything about your personnel matters?
If you find that someone is pulling a joke on you, make sure the BON knows what has happened to you.
Thanks..I did read this story, too...I didn't realize it was the same person. I agree with katwoman...12 narc discrepancies is alot! The facility had no choice, but to investigate and their conclusion is no suprise either. Still, the whole story is not adding up.

In other words it is possible (likely?) that someone called and misrepresented themselves as being with the BON. Have you independently verified that an action as been taken against your license by the State? Also, isn't everyone entitled to a hearing where the "facts of the case" are presented, and where you have an opportunity to respond to the allegations?
