Name a disease and then name the drug that's mostly commonly associated with that disease or condition. Here's mine: Erythromicin is seen with chlamydia and syphilis. Anybody else got anything?
Demerol's stocked on our unit to treat rigors and postop shivering. The metabolites produced as Demerol is metabolized can reach toxic levels which can lower seizure threshold; therefore, Demerol is generally contraindicated in pts with seizure histories. As a side note, morphine isn't automatically contraindicated with pancreatitis, only when dysfunction of the Sphincter of Oddi is the source of pain as morphine causes the sphincter to spasm.

Not for acute pancreatitis. Treatment is NPO (including antacids), IV fluid replacement, monitor amylase, lipase, glucose. Check for alcohol abuse and choleycystitis with possible blockage from stones.
Demerol is rarely used and often not stocked in many units due to risks outweighing benefits.
Pancreatic enzyme replacement is usually only used for chronic pancreatitis not acute pancreatitis.
