Learning anatomy terms

I'll begin taking my anatomy class at the end of January. Would it be smart to start learning the terms ahead of time using online practice sheets and information? Or should I wait?

Yes. I would say so. I would think learning the muscular system, and skeletal system would help a lot. I wish that I would have done this lol.

It always helps to be prepared! If you understand how to break down the terms and figure out what they mean, it will be so much easier! Getting an Anatomy coloring book is also good if you enjoy coloring :)

I do like to color. Where are books like that sold? I guess I could just look it up. Haha.

Are muscles and skeletal the most focused on in anatomy? Is there anything else that is also of great importance? (obviously the whole class is important, just what they focus on the most.)

Do nothing. Party why you still can! :)

Your class may require a specific coloring book. Wait till class starts for that, maybe.

You usually can't purchase books through financial aid until just before class starts.

Check out Carnegie Mellon's Free A&P website for lessons. https://oli.cmu.edu/jcourse/webui/guest/join.do?section=anatomy

(Do unit 4 Homeostasis before Unit 3). check out youtube for clarifications.

Check out Wiley's free website for practice activities. Go through it in same order. Anatomy Drill and Practice

If you just study the body planes, homeostasis, chemistry, and Cells you'll be way ahead.

I would look for a (new) anatomy coloring book on ebay/amazon, I think they are pretty cheap there. I have "The Anatomy Coloring Book by Wynn Kapit / Lawrence M. Elson". It's really good, and I used it for my high school A&P class well. While muscles and the skeletal system are important, they are only a part of what you learn in anatomy. You'll also learn about the cell, tissues, joints, nervous system (both central and peripheral), endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems, and so much more! Pretty much everything you learn in anatomy is important and builds on what you've learned in the previous chapter. Are you taking Anatomy and Physiology as separate classes?

Thank you all! I will look into everything suggested and appreciate your advice! My school does not combine anatomy and physiology. They are separate classes. I have to take chemistry before I can take physiology, so I am taking that next semester as well.

Books-A-Million have some of the coloring anatomy ones.

As a student in anatomy now, the sooner you can start the better. Coloring books can be helpful if you're a visual learner! I would recommend just spending a little time each day going over it. That really adds up and will help you a lot. There are also some great youtube videos that help you learn the difference between left and right bones! Best of luck

I would just enjoy my time off honestly haha. Anatomy is cake compared nursing school. If you have a decent memory you will be more than fine. If you really wanted to do something prior, I would just start memorizing the organ systems and functions of everything, just to have a general idea.
