Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

(1) I don't know how many times I have to say it on here: It's freaking HIPAA, not HIPPA!

(2) What the hell is a "pulse ox?" Why doesn't anyone call it an O2 sat around here??

Rant over

The "pulse ox" is the pulse oximeter that is placed on the finger to get an oxygen saturation. 02 Sat.

People like to shorten things - pulse oximeter can be hard to say so "pulse ox" is easier.

Of course if they are using it to describe oxygen saturation numbers . . . well, that's just wrong!

I believe you meant to say enunciation. Annunciation means a proclamation, as in the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

But what if the angel Gabriel spoke very clearly?

Haven't look at many of the other comments in this thread, but I know some of you have heard Alzheirmers pronounced "Alltimers". this drives me absolutely NUTS! I heard a CNA saying "he got that alltimers"...really? I've had to correct some of my family members. IT'S ALZHEIMERS, LOL. I told them if you cant say it just say dementia I'll know what you're talking about, Geez.

This thread is so funny, but awfully true.

Never heard of that one before. wouldn't be surprised if someone called it that.

OMG, I can so relate to this thread!

I didn't read through all the posts, so I don't know if these were mentioned but...

it's OXYCONTIN people, NOT oxycotton!

Also, NEURONTIN, NOT neurotten!

It's bad enough that lay people and the news media get it wrong, but I have heard so many healthcare providers mispronounce these two drugs, as well as the oft mentioned Phenergan (Phenigan drives me insane!)

OK, I feel better now!

Okay this isn't something people say but write, especially on here. It drives me crazy and I need to share.
