Lawson State fall 2017

Published

Hello everyone I would like to congratulate everyone who made it into this falls (2016) cohort. I will be applying to Lawsons fall 2017 cohort. I am creating this forum for those who are currently in the program that would like to encourage the next class and also let us know what to expect and for those applying to the 2017 cohort. Lets also post scores as we complete classes and take the ACT. So far I have taken bio 103, micro, eng, a&p 1, psych 1& 2, humanity, and will be taking a&p 2 and math 100 this miniterm and will be taking hps 103 and mth 186 in January. Oh and also remember no question is a dumb question unless you dont ask it!!!

Have you applied to any other nursing programs? Lawson is my first choice but I applied to Jeff State as well. I hope it is God's will for me to be accepted this year.

I didn't. I only applied to Lawson Programs. I know I should have applied to others but I decided I would just keep trying until I get in at Lawson

Oh, no, it's perfectly fine to keep trying for your dream school. I know a lot of my classmates have their hearts only on Lawson. Will you be working while attending nursing school? How many points do you have so far?

I think that I am going to work as long as I can......If f I am calculating correcting I have 32 points.

I am taking the HPS Class now, therefore, I wasn't able to use the additional points that you earn for that class.

Hi ladies, I want to be able to work and attend nursing school to. Do any one know of any healthcare jobs that are flexible with nursing students? Thanks you

Okay. That's good. I hate that your HPS won't count. I hope that I get accepted into the evening program so that I can keep my job. I hope I calculated my points correctly as well lol , if so I should have 38.5. I lost half my points for A&P 1 because I withdrew from the class the first time.

Hi there. I don't know any as of right now. I thought being a CNA or Tech job would be the best type but I suppose it depends on the employer and weather or not they are willing to work with your school schedule.

I don't know of anyone personally, however, I would start looking at the UAB Tech positions. Just let them know up front that you a nursing student. I know someone personally that went to work for UAB ER (night shift) because she is going to school during the day. 3- 12 hour shifts. Night shift, to some, is a bit of a MONSTER but I've started to say, "Is all about how bad you want it".

It won't last forever.

Thank you all! I will look around. Will look into CNA and apply for Student Tech jobs when I do start nursing school. I currently work full time monday - friday but my job dont have part time and will not work with you on fulling part time hours for any reason. Ill keep looking around

I would apply to all the hospitals to be a tech or Clinical assistant. I worked fri-sunday while in school and it worked out well for me. If you're going to work you MUST have a study plan! There is NO WAY around this. This may mean staying up later a few nights. just remember its all temporary. Working at a hospital gets your foot in the door when you get ready to graduate/take boards.

Thank you! Im applying everywhere right now

Does anyone know how Lawson sends acceptance letters? Do they do emails like Jeff state or is is mailed?

And any idea when we will receive a yah or nah?
