I don't even want to THINK about having such a whopper by 'natural' childbirth........my last one (now 15) was 10 lb. 9 oz., and I was thankful to have a C-section. The largest baby I actually gave birth to was my oldest, who was 9 lb. 11 oz., and all I can say is, she should have been a cesarean baby too. Yowza!!
My youngest was 10# 13oz. At the time, my doctor was insisting he was no more than 8 pounds. So after a trial induction of 14 hours (in which he didn't even descend at ALL) they finally decided to do a c-section. Which is a good thing. My oldest was 8# 3oz and after 36 hours of labor (12 of which was pushing) he was born with a broken clavical and I hemmorhages so bad that I was near code status with a Hgb of 2.5. My first by all rights should have been a c-section, but because I was medicade at the time (was only barely 18) they refused to do one. Nearly lost my life because of it.
After losing as much blood as I did I was delusional and so confused that I was refusing blood transfusion unless my mom - not a staff RN - could do the IV stick. Needless to say, they did allow her to and I left the hospital with Hgb of 5.5 (of course I had orders for B-12 shots and lots of iron - but I went AMA because mom was a nurse and could take care of me).
We had a 5.6kg (12lb...12oz...I think) that was only 36 weeks, born to a mom who was uncontrolled IDDM. Appearently they delivered the head and then had shoulder dystocia (of course) and had to push the kid back in and do an emergency c/s. Mom was still going through puberty and was not built for this size kid. Yep, asphyxiated (sp.) The transport team said the OR ;looked like there had been a masacre (sp.) The child would cry, but as far as MR or CP, who knows. Terribly sad.
