They serve mexican food. I thought it funny as well when the first one opened in my town many years ago, and I was familiar with the slang term. LOL

If memory serves me correctly, it's like a Mexican-American version of a Friday's or Bennigan's.

It's a Mexican Restaurant. The HepA was confined to the one at that mall I believe.

Hello all,
The HepA outbreak has been traced to a Chi-Chi's at a mall about 15 min. from where I live. One student at my school has been ill but is recovering. The husband of an ER nurse at the hospital is one of a few who are in CCU. Over 130 people have been confirmed as being infected. Over 5,000 people have been given immunizations.
According to the CDC website, food-borne transmission of HepA is unusual in the U.S.
Scary stuff ...

I also heard in a news report yesterday that is is uncommon for such an outbreak to occur at only one restaurant, but health officials are investigating other local restaurants and so far have not found Hep. A in any other establishiments.
The Pa legislature will also quickly push ahead new food handling laws such as anyone that is preparing food that will not be cooked ie. salad, chips, etc. will have to wear gloves while preping the food.
A legal battle is allready brewing over who is responsible for paying for the over 1,000 injections of Immunoglobin.
Yuck!
I noticed there are none in western states, esp ones thst used to be part of Mexico......What a foolish name! Right up there with Hooters (you know, like the OWL).
OK, someone who's familiar with the lingo will have to tell me what a Chi-Chi is in slang ... I'm already getting a mental picture ...

I have 3 patients on my unit from chichi's, there are a few more in other units in the hospital. one patient has amylase >3,000, she'll probally have her gallbladder out today. Another has gi bleeding, docs are thinking bilary vessels are bleeding in the liver. These are young people under the age of 30, makes one nervous about eating out anywhere.
Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for all restaurants to force better hygeine with their staff.
This is horrible-I dont mean to poke fun.
Am I right in thinking there is no requirement to wear gloves? They do that at burgerking here for chrissakes!
