Lapel watches???

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi! I'm a pre-nursing student, new to the site, and I have a kinda trivial question. Do nurses wear lapel watches? My grandmother in England wants to buy me one for my birthday, but I'm not even sure nurses wear them here in USA. Anyone? Thanks!

I am planning on getting on once I start school. I hate the feeling of a watch strap (weird I guess, lol) so that will be all I will use. I don't care if it is in fashion or not, it will just work better for me. Also, not having a wet watch strap is a plus!

are lapel watches pendant watches? Im sorry I just have no idea.:uhoh21:

Thanks....I felt kinda dumb asking but I really wanted to know what it was. Hey you learn something new everyday!!! I am now smarter:chuckle

i'm sitting in a patient room wearing an isolation gown. about 1/3 of our patients are in isolation. a lapel watch sounds like a fab idea -- but what about when you're wearing an isolation gown? my wrist watch is easy to see, and i wash it every time i wash my hands, figuring that it's been exposed to the patient just as much as i was!

I think the old fashion ones are cool looking...but are not very piratical.

does that mean a nurse on a pirate ship shouldnt wear one? why, is it not fearsome enough or what?

Wrist watches have been banned In our hospital policy. There have been studies that show the incidents of MRSA drop substatially when rings and watches are not worn. Wearing a lapel watch is now an issue of hygiene, rather than one of choice or ease of use. There are a number of online suppliers in the US and the UK who sell lapel watches. It's a very thoughtful gift your grandmother is offering to you!

Ive only worn lapel watches for the 2 yrs in school and my fresh 3 months as an RN.

I pin it behind my badge, and flip it around when I need it. Sounds weird, i know...but it works. I havent had issues at all.

As far as with iso patients, your writsts wouldnt be showing anyways right? So where the watch is for that kind of patient is a moot point.:clown:

I got mine for $7 on eBay...thats just b/c Im clumsy and break things often. Im on my third one, so I go with the cheap-o one.

There are cute ones on Ebay all the time. That is where I got mine in the past.

i have an antique (older??) gold lapel watch that belonged to my great aunt who was a surgeon. she graduated from medical school in 1920 and received the watch as a graduation present. it's beautiful but very delicate and fragile. i'd have loved to wear it to work but was always afraid it would get bumped. i wear it sometimes as jewelry.
