I don't normally have a lot of complaints or concerns...I'm usually more excited about school and what's going on in my life....

But today I had a few hours to sit down and just reflect on what my life really is at the moment.....School, labs, papers, clinicals, and night shifts....There's hardly any time for volunteer work (at my old job with good friends), socializing, dating, nada......

I guess I'm just depressed over it, and am starting to think that I'll never have the time for a social life once I graduate school, as I want to continue my education, plus 1st year nursing, etc. etc.....

Maybe I'm just lonely and thinking about all the other things people my age do/people they're meeting and feeling like life's passing me by...I guess a good night's sleep would help.....thanks all for letting me vent.

lorenzo, you are SO young, and I know that a year seems like an eternity to you at your age, but this WILL pass, and you will then be someone with a meaningful career and a LOT of time ahead of you.

And first year nursing isn't nearly as hard as I found nursing school.

I felt the same way. The majority of the problem was that i was always at home, school, or work.

So i started going out the weekend after payday to a nice restaurant. I was on a budget, yes, but i could get something nice to eat (a treat compared to hospital food) off of the appetizer menu.

You have to take a break every once in awhile, even if you don't feel that you can. You have to do that for youself.

I understand what you mean.

All I can say is we are young and after we get this degree ( or degrees) we will be more educated and therefore more interesting to talk to and we'll have more to offer in general.

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I know what you mean and to top it off I just wish that I had someone to share my days with. I am feeling a bit isolated lately and sick of just the books and school. I know it will pay off someday but darn it can be depressing!

I will also be continuing my education which means that I will have to relocate in a couple years to attend my program of choice. I doubt a guy would want to move a couple states away while I go to school and barely have time for him.

I have found the big issue with nursing school & dating is that I now spend nearly 100% of my time around other women! Before going to nursing school, I had a few female friends, but definitely not many.....spent most of my time hanging out with guys, going out with guys, doing stuff with guys. Now, I can count on one hand the number of guys in my life. No guys = No dates.

True...I have the opposite problem, I've always got along well with women and now I'm surrounded by a bunch of them but almost 9 out of every 10 are married or seriously with boyfriends or are bitter about men in general.....

No opportunity = no dates......

I'm trying to go out to a nice dinner 1x a week to flirt with the waitress or bartender, but most of them are with someone too.....where oh where are those dang single women?

Wow! I thought I was the only one with no life so to speak. Since starting school I seem to gravitate towards people in the same field or with the same interest (medical) as I have, and most of them are women. I have been asked out numerous times, and would have to decline d/t homework, work, being a single mom, etc. I have no life, and I will be finished soon and don't even know where to start. I do have a boy who is my friend, but am a little bit leary about if it will work out. I have been dabbling in dating for the past 3 yrs after leaving an abusive 11 yr relationship, and since I was with the person that I left since I was 17, I have like no clue as to what is out there. And also with me, most of the people I know are involved with a boyfriend or are married, and then there is me. I have been invited to out with them, but I don't want to be the "third wheel". I do feel lonely sometimes, and on those days I run like there is no tomorrow. Shin splints do a wonderful job of taking your mind off of things that are bother you lol.

AMEN... its been all about school, I try to at least go out once a week. you know just to get away even if its just sitting outside a friends house drinking a couple cold ones... but the dating thing, wow, has the well dried up... Im sure it will get better after the degrees... I guess its just going to be just me and my cat (martini)

well, well..I thought I was the only one feeling like dating life is over for me. I have dated but it's hard to find someone that really understands what nursing school is. Time demanding, intensive study, long clinical hours, little free time....I couldn't even being on a phone conversation for more than 10 minutes because I had school stuff to do. I'm jealous of the classmates that have their significant other ;) ..It would be nice to come home after a long day of stress, study, or with the good news of getting a good grade and have a special one to share that with. Well, nobody promised a rose garden when starting nursing school ;-)

Wow. this thread is really depressing me.

I agree with everyone here. None of us have enough time. Thank goodness I am only in a two year program. I am fairly new to CT and the friends I did have were at my old job and they party all the time. Definitely not what I need to be doing. I am also not going to get involved with anyone at the hospital or my school as that could be a serious mistake. Three semesters to go and I will be done.
