LAC+USC interview new grad RN

U.S.A. California

Published

Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you

@Nurse_Jaydee & @amoreterno - Thanks for answering my question! I was just wondering if it's ok to keep bugging them (A.K.A. being proactive) every week lol. Because each county hospital says different thing. Olive View told me to call them every week, but LAC+USC said they will call me when they have something and they did. Did you ask for a specific nursing recruiter when you call them to inquire about job opening? or whoever picks up the phone? There is one nursing recruiter there that I really like, but I know she is always busy.

I would like to congratulate both of you on your new job. How exciting! Hopefully I can join you guys soon:)

I always called and spoke to Debbie from LAC. She was really nice. She called me for the first two interviews I had. Then I called to ask about the 3rd one. Sue was also nice too. Just call and say, "Hi this is ________. I'm on the eligibility list. Is there anything I can interview for?" Then they will either say, "Ya actually we have blah blah blah." Or "Nope nothing right now." hehe hope that helps. Just call them, they get dozens of phone calls every day.

Hi, I'm just joining this thread, thanks to all for keeping the rest of us informed. My initial interview is set for November 29th. I graduated last December, but have been keeping my skills up by volunteering at a weekly free clinic in Glendale - this free clinic is really good about "working" with new grad RNs. (This is my 2nd career, and the 1st career has slowed down the hiring process for me; hope that won't be the case with LAC+USC.)

JillthePill- I don't think that will be the case for you, Nursing is also my second career/degree. I graduated back in May 2010, it can get hard but just stay positive that your opportunity will eventually come.

Hi everyone! I've been following this thread since I had an interview at LAC+USC few weeks ago. Unfortunately I wasn't selected for that position at this time, but I really work there. So I won't give up!

Congrats for the people who got job offers! I recognized few people from other thread realated to NICU:) I am very happy for you and Good luck!!

I have a question for the people who had more than one interview there. Did the nursing recruiter keep calling you for the interview? or did you call them every week?

daisyrock-

I had my initial interview all the way back in August 2010!!! I e-mailed LAC USC and Harbor UCLA nurse recruitment every first week of the month to see if there were openings I could interview for, but for the 2 interviewed positions I got, they actually just contacted me directly and asked if I wanted to interview for the positions. Both were from LAC USC. The first one was back in January and the nurse manager of the department contacted me for the interview, the second their nurse recruitment called.

But nurse recruitment at Harbor had told me in September that they changed their methods for application and to just apply directly to the openings on their jobs website; haven't had expereince doing that though cuz I was already waiting for my start date. I hope this helps.

@Nurse_Jaydee - Yes! Debbie. She actually cares and respect which area of nursing I really want to go into & try to find the position for me within my interest. She is great. Sue is nice too. I've talked to many nursing recruiters by now, but those at LAC are so far the best! Gosh, I really want to work there! and with nice pople like you Nurse_Jaydee:)

@volunteerpioneer - I will try that e-mail approach too! Thanks! But did they reply back to you? I guess what's important is keep showing my interest. I will keep calling and e-mailing them until they will get tired of me lol. I read your start date is next week!! Best of luck to you, volunteerpioneer!!

Awww thanks girl! You're so sweet! :) Debbie is awesome! I told her I wanted to work OB, Peds or NICU and she got me interviews for OB and Peds. She truly wants to place people in the units they wanna be in. Hope everything works out and maybe we can be co-workers someday! :)

Does anyone know anything about working in maimonides labor and delivery unit?

Volunteerpioneer.... or anyone who may have the answer. suppose i am done with the interview, background check, physical, and ready for hire date.... can I still call the nurse recruiters for another positions or interview to other units? I am confused about this procedures. Thanks.

From experience: if you already got hired into a unit and are just waiting for a start date then they are extremely hesitant, and pretty much will not allow you to interview for another unit or position.. BUT you can definately inquire and interview at another county hospital; do not withhold the fact that you've been hired and are waiting for a start date but certainly don't volunteer the information either. hope this helps.

Thanks Volunteerpioneer. Your clarification of the matter sure did help.

Thanks Volunteerpioneer for your kind words. I'm trying to figure out the flow here/I'm somewhat confused: I applied, and about 2 months later got written notice of an interview date about a month thereafter. (My initial interview is on November 29th.) It seems it will take about a month for me to find out whether I passed that initial interview, is that correct? And am I also correct in that it's written notice? Assuming I pass that initial interview, and therefore get notice of the same, I can then apply to positions - I get that. So I apply - how long is it until people are getting called for interviews? Currently - November 2011 - how long are people hearing back if they did get hired for a particular position? And I see that currently people are still hearing the dreaded "budget" word for a hang-up for funding for a physical. Shoot - I thought County's budget runs July to July. The other day an LVN whose wife works at County told me it's about a 9-month process. Does that seem about right? (Sorry for all the questions, I've been trying to figure this all out by reading all 25 pages of this thread, but...)

Hi Jillthepill! Hope I can answer some of your questions. After your initial interview, you will receive a letter stating if you passed or not. That letter will take approximately a month. After receiving that letter, you will be placed on an eligibilty list. You can then call around and ask if they are hiring for am RN I. If they have any positions you can interview for, they will let you know. Sometimes they will call you too. I got called for 2 interviews and I called for another interview. Just depends on what they have open at the time. Hearing if you were chosen for the position varies. Just call to check on the status of your interview if you can't wait any longer. I've been hired for Peds and completed the background check already. Just waiting for the "budget" to clear so that I can do my physical and finally start. So far it's been a 6 month process for me... Applied in May, received my letter in July to interview in August, Passed and interviewed in September, hired and did background check in October... Whew! That was long lol.

P.S. I apologize for any spelling errors, I'm doing this on my phone. :)

Ok, So... I would love to work with babies or children. But what if they call me for an interview for a unit that I'm not interested in.. Is it ok to turn down the offer? I know what I want and my mind is pretty much set for particular units. But I don't want to sound picky..

Btw, does anybody know nursing recruiters e-mail address? maybe share with me?
