La Salle ACHIEVE program acceptance!

Published

I just got accepted to La Salle's ACHIEVE Nursing program today! :lol2:

I'm so excited! (So excited I signed up for these forums, as a matter of fact!) I'm sure a number of you have attended La Salle's ACHIEVE program and could offer some insight. What's the program like? Did you like it? How was the balance between work life/student life? Do you think the quality of education was worth it for you?

I've also applied to Drexel's ACE program and I'm awaiting a response as well!

Yeah, spring cohort always starts at Bucks. That's also where people go if they fail something and need to take it over, since Bucks is always about to take what we just took.

If it wasn't 30 miles away from where I live, I might consider Bucks county, but that plus the distance to my workplace would make it over a 45mile drive. Not something I'd want to do multiple times a week.

Any suggestions/tips/bits of wisdom you can provide for new students coming into the ACHIEVE program?

Enjoy and take some time for yourself now because once you start it will be one helluva ride! :D

try to enjoy the rest of your summer..once classes begin, you will need to study alot. I'm also entering year two. I will tell u that program is absolutely doable, but again as with any nursing program, you will be required to study alot to do well. Nursing school tests are very different, as they test critical thinking skills. There will always be 2 right answers on your test, but one is always "more right" if that makes sense! You will attend classes Tue and Thurs, Fundamental and Intro to Nursing. They are not hard classes. I had Prof Gies for Fundamentals and Maternity. As onedayattatime mentioned they have implemented the HESI exams after every semester. I think at some point their will be mandatory requirement to pass that HESI, but as of right now it is not. The NCLEX rates have gone up this year to 83% I believe. One reason may be that they have added an additional med-surge class (thats what one professor mentioned to me)...Dont worry about the "intended", everyone taking the pre-reqs are considered "intended." Your peers will be a great source of moral support. This is one thing I do like, the students become close knit and understand all the frustration of being working adults attending school. Make the most of clinicals.. Learn everything you can and ask lots of questions especially if you find awesome nurses at your clinical sites! Dont stress!

This is great advice! Thanks so much.

A general question for you guys: What's the average age of a person in this program? I'm 23 -- 24 when I start, so I imagine I'll be among the younger of the nursing students for the ACHIEVE program. Are there any youngsters like me? :p

you will probably be one of the younger ones.. there is a wide range though..

Hi! I am interested in La Salle. Congratulations for getting accepted, and as for the current students - I wish you all the best. Question... did you have finish all your pre-req's before applying? And are you in the LPN to BSN program? How long did the application process take? I have been trying to schedule an appointment to see a counsellor for the longest time, but I never get a response back *sigh*

Hey there. No I didn't have all my pre-reqs completed before I applied but I was pretty close. I have one class yet to take. I am going to be in the ACHIEVE program which is for people who already have a bachelors degree in something else. My application process was really speedy. After sending everything in I heard back in a week or two.

Congratulations!!

You actually do not need to already have a bachelor's degree in order to apply for the ACHIEVE program (I don't).

I realized I had up to 5 general pre- reqs to take like religion and ethics class before the program began. But because I already hold a Bachelors degree they waived my humanities courses that I needed to take. New rule they put in when I asked Kristin. I was happy knowing that I did not have to take them since I already possess over 120 credits of undergrad class already. But the science requirements they won't waive and you have to take them no matter what.

Good luck everyone! Excited for the Fall 2011 to begin :)
