Anyone out there apply for Spring 2016? I just received the paperwork for the TEAS and questionnaire. I know we are months away from finding out if we get in, but maybe we can share information here!

Yes, I'm 2nd semester!! To me, it's tough, but I think nursing school isn't as hard as some people make it out to be lol... There are some clinical instructors that are TOUGH and will make you rethink your dreams of being a nurse (I personally haven't had this experience but my classmates have told me) lol the experience we get from clinicals is like no other though.. We do way more as 2nd semester students than other programs in 4th semester.
Definitely have to keep up with stuff and not fall behind because that's a death sentence lol we've definitely lost quite a few people already in both 1at and 2nd semesters.
Have any specific questions?

Thank you for the info righteousjenn! The majority of people on here say it's so difficult and I'm glad to hear you say it's definitely possible. Is it really hard to get an A? I want to get a BSN and eventually MSN so I'm just wondering. Also, do you have any free time at all for a social life or for boyfriend or family? Or does nursing school really consume all of your time and should I really expect to be off the grid?

Hi everyone. I've also been accepted to LAC. I am a little torn, I also got into LAVC. I want to go to LAC but I think LAVC would be more convenient since I live in the San Fernando Valley. I hear really great things about the rn program at LAC and not much about LAVC. Can someone weigh in on this? Is it worth it for me to make the commute to LAC?
Hi lotus10,
that's a tough one, you're going to have to weigh your pros and cons about the commute, not just for class but for clinicals as well. But lac has the county hosp in Sylmar so maybe that's not too bad for you. But does it make sense for you to be on campus 4x a week from 630am-noon ish? I say 630 assuming you're like me. ...we'll have a heart attack if parking 5 min til start time lol. We should ask righteousJenn how the schedule is. I checked on the lac sight for schedules of current students, but the syllabus online is for class of 2013, I'm sure some things have changed. ..I too, was curious about time and days of the courses. I'm waiting on rio hondo, should know the week after thanksgiving- then I'll be in your shoes. Rio hondo is a couple of exits away from me, lac I would have to drive with traffic everyday and possibly leave my place like at 6 or 10 til 6, just to get there at 645am. Anywho in the end, we all just want to pass our nclex exam and I'm sure lac is not the only school that can prepare us for that. ...although their pass rate is like 98%...so enticing lol.
Phea0414 thanks for your response :). My heart is definitely set on county. However, Lavc there's a bog fee waiver so tuition will be much cheaper. But in retrospect county's program is about 10-12k, which isn't a lot. I don't know I am so lost. I need to go pick up my package from Lavc tomorrow if I decide to go there.
10-12k is alot to me, especially when comparing to 6k for the same degree.
But go where your heart is telling you to go, you'll be happier that way! But congrats on getting into more than one program! deciding on which program is tough but hey, that's a good problem to have. Hehehehe
Lotus, I'm on the exact same boat as you. I have my heart set on LA County, but I got accepted to Mt. SAC and they do have the BOGW. LAC would be about $10k and Mt. SAC would be free as far as tuition goes. I qualify for the Pell Grant and Mt SAC would GIVE me about $10k for the 2 years. I hope to speak to a financial advisor or get more information regarding Pell Grants from LAC. I would consider going to LAC if I get the same $10k from the Pell Grant since that would cover the tuition cost and I feel comfortable paying for living expenses out of pocket. Hopefully we can get some more information regarding financial aid at the pre-registration.
Nataliekorn- congrats on getting into both programs. I know county also offers a tuition deferment program in which you pay $700 a semester and defer the rest until after graduation. And the perk is if you get hired at a county hospital then your tuition is forgiven. The only issue is I'm not sure how easy it would be to get a job at a county facility upon graduating. The nurses I work with all have really great things to say about LAC and most are encouraging me to pick county over lavc.
Phea0414 thank you! Congrats to you too. If you get into Rio Hondo which program would you choose?
Lotus yes I heard about tuition deferment but I'm trying not to let that influence my decision since it's not guaranteed. im hoping they can provide some insight at the pre-registration. Everyone is telling me to go to county as well but $10k is a pretty big chunk of money. At least our predicament is a good one to be in. Having an option is always great.
