Ok, so I've kind of looked around the site, but I can't find what I'm looking for. I applied to the KSU accelerated nursing program for the Spring of 2012. Our applications, TEAS score, etc. already had to be turned in by May 31st. I was curious to know about how long they take to get back to you to let you know if you made it to the second round. I've got a 3.2 GPA right now, and I graduate from UGA in December with a BS in Psychology. I made a 91.3% overall score on the TEAS V. Does anyone have any idea about my chances of getting in? I took the TEAS without even taking A&P at all, but I'm taking it right now. Any advice if I do make it to the second round? I am CPR/First Aid certified and I have my CNA. Also, if anybody needs any advice about the TEAS, I'd be happy to answer some questions and tell you what I thought of it.
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I'm still on "standby". I've been following along with the thread, and if I do get accepted, I would love to study the calculate with confidence book with you all. I ordered the fourth edition. I really hope I get in. I'm going to talk to F on Friday or Monday to see what my stats were, especially my point totals in each of the five areas they look at. I will know by Nov. 7th if I get a spot. I know a couple other people on "standby" also which makes no sense, because one of them has a GPA of 3.8+ in all areas, but they did bad on the TEAS. I figured the GPA would have balanced everything out. My overall GPA (3.3) isn't the greatest because of college classes I took 10 years ago when I wasn't planning on becoming a nurse....
Hopefully I will meet you all in January. You guy seem like a great bunch of students!
For those of you who are nursing students at Kennesaw State--or are thinking of transferring here--please check out the new OWLSpace: Learning Commons @ Sturgis Library. The lower level of the library has been completely renovated and opened to students. There are also multiple group study rooms available. Check it out when you get a chance.
Hi everyone,
I saw previous comments about CPR certification, immunizations, etc. I contacted moderator edit of name to see if this was something we should go ahead and start taking care of. She wanted me to let everyone on here know that they do not want us starting the process. She said that moderator edit of name will be contacting us about the paperwork when it is time for us to begin processing and that she may not even accept paperwork completed early. This includes CPR certification!!! She said this was because the requirements are cyclical. If you do them early, you must renew them early. If you are in the middle of a clinical when this occurs. it could cause you to be ineligible to attend.
Hope this is helpful to everyone!
This includes CPR certification!!!!
I'm pretty sure that can't be correct because there are students with CPR certification already. Like myself, what I basically did was make a copy of the CPR and insurance card front and back and copy papers don't have date on em lol so I don't see how that could possibly cause any problem. But I don't wanna update mmunization or any sort, but I stil find and put my immunization records in my nursing file and I think that's what everyone here is doing at the moment.
@proms2009. not sure. Just letting you know exactly what moderator edit of name told me. I'm not currently CPR certified, so maybe that is the difference. Below is a copy of our email conversation
My initial email to moderator edit of name
I want to start off by stating how excited I am to be starting this Spring! Thank you and everyone involved so much for this wonderful opportunity! I dropped my contract off along with a print out of my current classes and grades today. I was hoping to let you know what I am doing to prepare for January and to see if there is anything else I need to prepare for.
The acceptance letter stated that we will be receiving further information this December regarding Orientation and Health Record Information, but I am involved in a forum on allnurses.com and some of my fellow classmates are starting to prepare and I did not want to get behind. I have phone calls into some of the CPR contacts provided to go ahead and get my certification. I also just ordered the Calculate with Confidence book, as some students had mentioned they are starting to prepare.
Also, I see that I must complete a Criminal Background Check & Drug test using Advantage, can you give me some more information on what Advantage is and where I can go to obtain? Since a drug test is involved, I assume this would need to be completed closer to when we start classes?
I recently had a physical and was going to ask my physician to go ahead and complete the physical form for me. I just want to make sure that the correct form is listed as Health Forms under the clinical tab on the website. It is a 2 page document, 1st page to be completed by physician and 2nd page to be completed by me.
moderator edit of name's Response Was
Dani, I am so glad you contacted me. Please go onto allnurses.com and explain to the others that we do NOT want you to start doing your paperwork yet. moderator edit of name will be contact you about the paperwork when it is time for you to begin processing. She may not even accept paperwork completed early. This is because the requirements are cyclical. If you do them early, you must renew them early. If you are in the middle of a clinical when this occurs, it could cause you to be ineligible to attend. I would appreciate it if you'd pass this information along to others. I would hold off on the badge, too. Who know? We may change the design and you'd have to order again!!
I then replied
Good morning, thank you! I will let everyone know. Is it okay if I go ahead and get CPR certified?
moderator edit of name replied
Not really, for the same reason.
@IslandRae nothing balances out the other. Every area carries its on weight. Could be that the teas and interview carries more weight than the gpa lol I don't know but I hope it works out well for you. Let us know if there's any news :)
Well it kinda does balance out. Each area is worth 20% (20 points), and there are five areas for a total of 100% (100 pts). Therefore, if your GPA is really high (equivalent to 18 or 19 points), but your TEAS was horrible (10 pts) all five areas when evaluated and added allows them to rank us and make their selection ie:, the top 50 students with the highest percentage or point total. That is why some students with high TEAS and low GPA are accepted and vice versa. Everyone was ranked based on the total points they earned in each area. I don't know how KSU does this because they never share their information with us applicants, which is kind of the mysterious question....they are not transparent.
@dpatterson that's a good information but I believe starlite as well as the previous students made it clear with a red writting that you don't do the drug and criminal background check til the first week of school. For CPR, it helps when you get it done like 3weeks before semester starts because its a 2yrs certification so it makes sense to get it later so you won't have to renew it while in school. That's pretty much what the thread been talking about. The only preparation you need to be doing right now is organizing, and reviewing your past textbook esp. A&p the physiology part and clinical calculation. It makes nursing courses easier for you when they fresh in your head. Also purchase stethoscope, not a badge! You get where am going to? Thanks for sharing your message with F.to us! xo
Hey everyone, if you have your CPR certification it will be okay as long as YOU DO NOT LET IT EXPIRE DURING THE SEMESTER!!!! I have friends in the program who got their certification because of work and they have been fine. You just have to stay on top of everything. Because nursing school can be so overwhelming for some students, they forget to keep their certification and immunizations up to date. I am going to get CPR certified, and my immunizations are up to date for the next few years. The only thing I will need to do is have my Dr. complete my physical forms and if they want a new physial to be done, I'll do that also. The physicals have to be renewed annually. The CPR certification lasts for 2 years. The only situation that I've heard of with the CPR cert. not being accepted is if there have been updates to procedures. for example, if you were certified January 2011, but AHA changed the requirements July 2011, then you would need to recertify. So with that being said, Proms you should be fine as long as there haven't been any updates to the procedures or the CPR instrux you received previously. And if your certification expires in October, then make sure you renew it well before then, like August or September.
As for the badges, books, and uniforms (a link to the store is on the WSON website), I will definitely hold off on that!! Yes it is true that they can change the design of the badges, the books may change for each class at the beginning of the semester, and the uniform styles and requirements may change.
The criminal background and drug test should not be done until AFTER we start classes because it needs to be done once you START the program, not before.
@IslandRae that makes a perfect sense and yea ksu needs to start sharing this information with applicants, so they better understand how this things work. I never knew anything about that, I just know I did great on my interview and was accepted! Lol my gpa is 3.7 and my teas wasn't high either just an average score. Anyhow
