  1. Hi All, I've also been accepted for a September start!!! I scored a 93 on my HESI, I don't know what my GPA is that they used, because I don't know what classes they transferred in from my prior degree. There are about 50 questions in the math and language arts sections, about 30 in the science, and 15-20 in the critical thinking, and personality & learning style. There is a link to use a calculator with the math section. It took me just over 2 hours to complete the test. I also have concerns about funding because I already have a BS degree so my options are limited to private loans and scholarships. Hope to see you all in September.:yelclap:
  2. @phrozenone Not many nursing schools have a dosage calculation "class". They teach you the stuff, which is not hard. I went through the calculate with confidence book and it only took a week or so. It is very easy, especially if you understand the formulas. It is not enough to teach for a full semester. A friend attending the Chicago campus says that they are tested at the beginning of each session on dosage calculations.
  3. I went to the open house this past Tuesday, and met the Dean and a couple of faculty/staff members. The campus is nice and very high tech. I definitely feel that there will be an intimate feeling in the classroom. It is expensive, but also remember that it is a private school, so compared to Emory or Mercer's nursing program costs....it's in the same range and/or cheaper. I am going to apply for the September 3rd start. I'm hoping that my courses transfer from my previous dedree which will reduce the total time and costs that I will have to spend at Chamberlain. In regards to clinicals, they pretty much said they have contracts with St. Josephs, Northside, Grady, Piedmont as said above, and other facilities (maybe nursing homes, etc.). Not sure about Emory either. Also, the tuition is only decreased if they accept your transfered in classes as a whole. For example, the whole 3 year program is approx $70k, it you transfer in enough classes to knock out the pre-requisites, it will knock your time down to a little over 2 years which is approx $46,800($7800 x 6 semesters) Seeing as though most of us have taken the pre-requisites because they were needed to apply to most nursing programs in GA, we will be looking at the lower figure. Hope this makes sense.
  4. @karamarie, Will do! I just have to figure out how, I've been having problems since the other day. Where does your friend live. The main place I work is looking for people also. It is in Roswell. The other places want 10/11pm -6/7am PRN.
  5. Hey everyone, it's been a while. I've been busy working. Obviously I did not get in this past spring, "supposedly" they had no room to take anyone from the stand-by list. For those of you that are confused because of the conflicting information, get used to getting different information everytime you call...that seems to be the norm. I believe for the fall, the letters will go out about the first week of April. I remember they went out that time last year for the fall applicants, and they were interviewing around the end of the semester during final exams in May. When you recieve the letters, there is about a 3-4 week time period before the interview. They have to get people/staff that will be available to conduct the interviews. The interviews are individual, and you are being interviewed by 2 members of the faculty. The questions are behavior/situation questions. EX: Tell me a time you had to deal with an angry customer... I think in the Spring 2012 thread by UGAgal, there is a list with like 25 questions on there, use those as a guide. That list is a great tool! The mock interview is available to current students, and is offered by the career center. (If you go to KSU's main website and search career center, you will get the contact information) During the mock interview, you are asked behavioral questions, and video taped. After the mock interview, they will watch the video with you and go over body language, how you should have answered the questions, etc. She will also give you suggestions on preparing. There is no limit to how many times you can do the mock interview. I only did it once, because I didn't have time to do it again. I would suggest doing it when you receive your letter, then like a week before your scheduled interview. Between that time, practice, practice, practice. I refuse to stress out like I did waiting on the whole Spring semester start. If it happens, it happens....stressing like I did last semester is not worth it. I think everything happens for a reason. I got a job at an assisted living facility in November, and just hot hired at 2 other facilities PRN. For me this is great because if I am able to start in the Fall, I can use my tuition assistance benefit (from all 3 places).I don't qualify for financial aid, so I have to pay out of pocket :-) It has been a blessing in disguise! I wish you all the best!!!
  6. Yup...I believe u need to maintain a C average. You make A's to get into the program and C's to stay. Hopefully, I will be trying my hardest to continue to get A's if I get in.
  7. @karamarie, Still waiting. F said that they have to wait until final exams to see if there will be any room. She sounded optimistic, and when I did a class search, there are 30-50 spots open for the classes I would need to take. So I have my fingers crossed, and hoping ALL first semester students pass their classes with C's or higher...LOL!
  8. @isabunny, it depends on the statistics of your competition when you apply. I know of someone with a 3.1 GPA that is almost finished with the program now. On the other hand, I know of people with 3.3 GPA's that did not even get the chance to interview. The best answer is that it just depends on how you are ranked with the other students that apply. And remember they look at 4/5 areas to determine if you will be invited to an interview. I think if you look at earlier posts to this thread, you will find some stats of the spring 2012 class.
  9. Hey NGgirl and anyone else reading that is on standby. I talked to Fran yesterday and she said they have to wait until grades are calculated and to keep my fingers crossed. She also reiterated that there are not a lot on the stand-by list and we should all get in. So now I'll just continue to wait and keep my fingers, toes, and anything else I can crossed...LOL! Happy waiting!!!!!
  10. @danceluver, I actually don't have time to scan all those pages. It's a lot because it covers all sciences (physical and earth, chemistry, anatomy, biology, physics). If you are near a Barnes and Noble, you can go in the store and use the book to study in the store. Hopefully your B&N still has study tables in it because the ones by me removed the tables because they are trying to cut down on customers using the books in store instead of buying them. You can also buy the book (it's like $20) then return it within 30 days as long as there are no markings in the book.
  11. @danceluver, I supplemented my science studying with the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam study guide because the TEAS study guide doesn't cover a lot of science compared to what was on the test. Also, here is a link to the admissions office mailing address http://www.kennesaw.edu/admissions/contact_ksu.html Transcripts are sent to admissions, and then the registrars office evaluates them for credits that will be accepted.
  12. Definitely try the health department.
  13. Yes I am Jamaican...LOL. I haven't started my job yet, but looking forward to it. Which school are you currently attending? Good luck on your project.
  14. @karamarie, I wish I could say that they use a lottery system. According to F and S, they themselves have told me that they rank all the students and then select the top 140, or whatever number they decide on for that semester. However, if that was the case, then the individuals that have high GPA's and test scores, should have been invited. And yes, a lot of schools are focusing on theory more than clinical skills, which I believe is the reason why a lot of new grads don't feel "ready" when they graduate. This is why I think it is up to the student to make the best of the situation. Also, friends that I have that are in nursing school all over the ATL area say that they notice a difference the age and maturity of the students. I understand this because if you have a student that has never worked and has been in school straight since high school, their perspective will be different than someone who has had to work and/or pay their way through school, and also for students with children. I think it just depends on the individual. Me personally, I have my CNA certification, and I just got hired at a LTC/assisted living facility. I am going to try my best to supplement my clinical experience as much as possible. I'm hoping to make the transition to an hospital job as a PCT after I get some experience.
  15. @karamarie, yes they told me reasons why, but I think the experience is different for everyone. Some say that the the tests are not fair, too much busy work, lots of cliques between the students, would like to focus more on hands on skills, instead of so much writing. Basically, it boils down to what you expect from the program, how you learn and if it will be a match for you. The tests are designed to get the students to think like a nurse, and some students hate that they can't just read and regurgitate info and get A's like they did with their prerequisites. The busy work....for example, the clinical instructor, makes the students type up their reports, even if the hand written version is legible. I think KSU is a great school, my problem with them is that every semester that I have been going there, I've met a student that did not fall into the criteria of what they claim to look at when selecting students, and I know students that should have been at the top of the list but didn't even get an invitation to interview. It just makes me believe that they are looking at other stuff besides what they say they are. There are plenty of students that should be in the program that haven't gotten in yet, and it is not fair, because some students in the program can't even boil water without someone giving them step by step instructions.
