Hi all.....can anybody help me with this poser. I have just went through my second gateway and wonder if this means a wage rise:twocents:. I know that you were given a yearly increment when it was the whitley scale, not sure where I stand with the KSF though:o.
My understanding was that unless your manager puts a hold on your progression via HR you automatically progress. I have never had to complete paperwork to send to payroll or HR to allow staff to pass through a gateway
How and why can they hold you? Also how would we know about it. Do they have to inform us?

you could be stopped from passing through a gateway if your performance was such that you didn't perform to the KSF profile for your role at the gateway i.e. the foundation KSF profile forthe role at the first gateway and the fully competenent at the second gateway.
you will know about this because your appraisals etc will be telling you that you are not performing to the relevant KSF profile.
no you don't 'have to be informed' becasue you should nknow before your ward manager - unless your appraiser is your ward manager.

In my previous job I was a ward manager and had to complete a document after 6 months of qualifying to allow the new member of staff to move to the second increment. I had to sign to say that I could if requested to do so, provide the evidence they had passed through the preceptorship period successfully. Likewise for first and second gateways the procedure was the same, it was measured against the KSF outline so would hopefully be addressed at your PDP/appraisal.
