Knocked off my feet

Published

hi,

i need some sound advice about my situation. i completed 3.5 semesters of an acelerated bsn program in the boston area and was dismissed due to a clinical failure 3 weeks from graduation. i had excellent grades, and even made the dean's list a few times. (and for the record, i did not put a patient in any harms way. it was strickly a political/personality situation, and unfortunately i have no recourse so i need to move forward.)

i've looked into a few other schools, but they do not transfer upper lever [color=#ae04e8]nursing courses which means i'd have to re-take nearly all of the classes i already passed. (that is if they accept me because of my clinical failure!!) this is a really tough pill to swallow, and i'm not getting any younger.

i can't fathom starting over from scratch again, so i'm looking to anyone in this forum who may have some reliable advice. (i was told from one school that they would accept two classes, but that was about it. they also have a board you can petition, but that is a time consuming process and it's not always a guarantee.)

will i be forced to watch all my hard-earned credits drift out to sea??? it's just heart-breaking.

i'm so close to finishing.....i need some realistic ideas about other options. are there any schools in the boston area that will tranfer my hard-earned upper-level nursing credits??? unfortunately, relocating is not an option for me at this time.

praying for a response(s) that will set me on a new track so i can finish what i started.

Her first sentence was, "I need some sound advice about my situation." She then goes on to question whether or not she will be accepted @ another school due to her "clinical failure". How are we going further?

Just re-read OP. She simply asks for sound experience in searching for facilities/avenues through which she can utilize her earned credits.

She notably does not ask anyone to analyze her situation. She does not ask for conjecture about what she did or didn't do.

But enough. We digress...

I am hearing some very judgmental personalities posting here, and may I remind you NO we don't know all the facts, and NO we don't need to.

Why do some of you posting have to move this into an area of speculation. As this is a forum open to the public, obviously we cannot and do not have the luxury to post specifics. This is what irritates me about nurses: Self-righteousness!

If the OP has stated, "I've exhausted all avenues of recourse", then why can't some of us here just accept that?

Although I know you can't go into details (and I respect that a lot), I hope my advice can help you.

I got my BSN at an expensive and small private college. If you failed, it was a year until you could even apply again, and if it was a political/personality issue there's no way they'd let you back in. Plus, the environment was so hostile that it would be better to transfer to somewhere else.

Some states will allow you to take the NCLEX-PN and let you become an LPN after 3 semesters of RN classes. So is that a possibility in your state?

I can't imagine how difficult things must be on you right now. I'm sorry that happened to you. It happened at my school too (personality/politics problems).

Thanks aheartsaverrn!!

This is excellent advice anyone know who I could contact to confirm whether or not I could take the NCLEX-PN in the state of Mass? Also, I want to thank all of you who have been compassionate & thoughtful in your responses. This has not been easy for me, but I'll climb my way back and I'll do whatever it takes.

Unfortunately, I can not share all of the details...but I will be sure to let all of you know how this turns out.

For now, you have all restored my faith in this humble profession, and that is probably what I need MOST at the moment.

I I'll probably be stoned or otherwise called a negative nelly for saying this, but honest to God, if I were you, I think I would try to turn over a new leaf. As I said in an earlier post, I feel I was nearly where you are at several times during my nursing education, and in retrospect, if that had happened to me I probably would have walked away to something else. Honestly, nursing is NOT the greatest thing since sliced bread like some here would have you believe, it has a lot of cons. I'm just sayin', think about what you're fighting for before you perhaps blindly decide to step back into the ring. Hope this makes some sense.

check to see if you can challenge your bon's lvn test. check quickly; if you are eligible, take the exam and get your license. then, apply to an bridge course for an lvn to rn. if you want online then the excelsior program or the distant learning indiana state univ program is an option.

do not let time go by without doing something--you don't want to lose your skills.

That is exactly the point some posters are making about the OP. Why can you see it here but stress conspiracy there? Without naming names, dates & locations, the OP can give the gist of the info & still remain unidentified. In addition, with 3 weeks till graduation left, the average student if they really felt wronged, would come here in complete outrage & spill all.

I'm just saying:rolleyes:

We are here to help other nurses and nursing students. It is irrelevant what the circumstances were for the OP. What she needs is help and advice, which I hope the AN nurses have provided her.

All ican say is, people that have failed clinical are the ones who did something terrible.

I got put on a "learning plan" for not showing enthusiasm in my maternity/newborn clinicals. Given i hated them, and i had a very hard time pretending to like them. Anyway. This meant my professor in my next clinicals was the one who was given the power to "pass/fail" me. basically given a second shot.

a girl in my class who failed clinical broke a hippaa violation in her pysch clinicals. She saw one of her high school classmates in the psych unit for attempted suicide. they didn't get along in high school and she thought it would be fun to read through her charts and harass her.

so anything that got you failing, maybe you deserved it? I don't know. your not going into detail so i can't really help you. i guess i don't understand personality issue. Was it personality issue with your instructor? a nurse you were assigned with? a patient? a classmate?

I didn't read through all the posts, to time consuming. But shouldnt you be allowed to retake the class at the same school?

 Not at all helpful.

And OP has made it clear that she is not posting more details (rightfully so).
