Kingsborough Fall 2014 Clinical Applicants!

U.S.A. New York

Who else is taking the NLN this coming monday/tuesday at kingsborough? What are everyone's thoughts of science 25?? Any concerns, comments, questions please feel free to discuss them here. Future applicants feel free to ask any questions, too!

Cant wait until clinicals! Currently have a 3.97 prereq GPA, completed all prereqs except for bio 51. All A's, aside from sci 25 with an A-

Im worried if these schedules for our bio classes will interfere with our core clinical classes..

@nursingstudentjess I'm really looking forward to next semester. I'm just really worried about getting a good grade because fundamentals dropped my GPA and I really want to go to Hunter in Fall '16.

I think I'll also be going over board with supplement books because I need all the help I can get. I've already read the fluid and electrolytes chapter. Anxiously waiting for my little supplement book from amazon to arrive so I can start studying.

It's possible it might interfere but we should be able work it out. There are many sections for bio 12 and bio 51, and there are winter sessions. If it's really conflicting I'd speak to an advisor to work the schedules out, but obviously the clinical classes/lectures are first priority!

Howed you guys do in the english portion of the NLN? It was my lowest score, I scored in the 49th percentile, or a 56%. Science I was in the 99th, and math 90th or so.

Some folk are telling me they look at the english portion the most, but someone in the nursing department told me all 3 sections are looked at equally.

I was always told they focus on the English portion the most and that it was the English portion that would really make or break you. The professor I had for sci25 instructed us to focus on studying vocabulary, the prof would even give us weekly vocabulary tests! I know for each portion of the exam they expect you to score above the 50th percentile. Don't get me wrong ppl have gotten in the program who scored in the 50 percentile. You did really well in the other sections so that will look good. Try to hang in there, only a couple more weeks untill you get your answer. I know how antagonizing the wait can be!!

I am guilty of checking it multiple times during the day already. :(

For the fundamentals class, are questions on the exam nclex style questions?

Yes, all tests in the program will resemble NCLEX style questions. If you want to get a head start google fundamentals questions or exams, to get a sense of what you will be expecting!

You figure maybe they tell you that so that you study the english portion a bit more? It was the hardest section/most questions to finish.

I'm hoping what that person in the nursing department told me was true!

Well I don't think the nursing department will ever tell you which section to focus on - they ideally want you to do well on ALL sections. I do think, however, that most people who take the NLN are comfortable with math and science, but do poorly on the verbal portion; ergo if you did well on the verbal, it makes you stand out (in a very positive way)! This is a generalized statement, though. There are always exceptions.

Ahh, the wait is getting to me, each day draws closer. id give anything to know now!

I feel your pain, while you wait for an acceptance letter I'm waiting for my class codes (program picks your schedule for you!) to see if hopefully I'm placed with friends from my study group!! If not it's going to really suck =\

Speaking of scheduling, for us first termers, are we given a block schedule with a set day AND time we are to take our classes? Or are we allowed some flexibility in scheduling?
