Ironbound

Well guys, after 3 years of struggle, I managed to graduate nursing school. I should be taking my NCLEX sometime in august. After that though, I'd like to start working ASAP (who doesn't? haha). Now, unless strong connections are in play, I highly doubt I'll be able to get a hospital job ANY time soon, however, I am willing to work anywhere, at the moment, in any kind of facility/establishment. Do you guys have ANY tips on what I should do? Any areas around NYC with hospitals that are keen on hiring new grads? Flu clinics? LTC? I'd like to hear some of you new graduates experiences as well. Thanks everyone!!

Thankfully, I did. I did so the minute my registration opened up!

Looks like its gonna be bio 51 and med surg. Just when ya think it gets easier.... Oh well, anyway the third test is coming up! We are being tested on: Wound care Asepsis Heat and cold Nutrition Urinary elimination Fecal elimination

Was this for the summer or winter module? On cunyfirst, Medgar evers is showing no winter classes, at all, for anything.

I tried, nothing. They kept telling me to try an e permit, ignoring me after i had told them repeatedly that there are no e permits avaible for winter bio 51 anywhere else. That department is unprofessional, and needs to be looked into, immediately. I've had half my mind rounding up some students in 18 who are in this situation (and believe me, there are alot of us!) and going collectively to the department to complain. Bah, I feel like even then, nothing will happen. How is it that Bio 51 classes are 16 student classes? where is the sense in this? They should at least be double the size. Makes no damn sense.

It's utterly ridicoulous how this school runs itself. I was unable to get a winter class for bio 51, and it doesnt look like there are any e permits for the winter available. I'm either forced now to take bio 51 with nur 21 (overstress myself and most likely fail due to excess coursework), or take bio 51 alone (hold off my nursing career even further). This is insane, and absolutely dumb.

We're almost there guys, keep pushing, no matter what.

Did better this time around :) but man oh man was that test tricky! They literally open the textbook, throw a dart in it, and test you based on that! Its crazy!

So the second test is coming up, and we are being tested on medications, oxygenation, physical assesment, pain management, pulse oximetry, HFA/MDI, sensory deficit, activity/rest, and hygiene. Any advice???

Eh, not too bad, I got an 80. I should have gotten a 90 but, i second guessed myself on a number of questions. Turns out every question i second guessed myself on, my original choice was right!!! But i'm just glad I passed.

We are also being tested on teaching, safety, delegation, and diagnostic testing. Several hundred pages worth of reading!!!

On tablets! shouldn't make a big difference though, I'd assume. Do you know off hand if they assign an equal number of questions per topic? like 5 for apesis, 5 for vital signs, etc...

brutal. Our first exam is monday, ive been doing nothing but practice questions and reading. my god, there is so so so much reading. do you have any advice for the first exam? We are being tested on health assessment, nursing process, apesis, vital signs, legal, sleep, stress, and communication. This program is no joke.

And to (most likely) close it off, whats the best piece of advice you could give to a student taking both bio 12 and Fundamentals of nursing? Thank you for all your helpful advice, jess.
