Kingsborough Fall 2014 Clinical Applicants!

U.S.A. New York

Published

Who else is taking the NLN this coming monday/tuesday at kingsborough? What are everyone's thoughts of science 25?? Any concerns, comments, questions please feel free to discuss them here. Future applicants feel free to ask any questions, too!

Cant wait until clinicals! Currently have a 3.97 prereq GPA, completed all prereqs except for bio 51. All A's, aside from sci 25 with an A-

The accreditation means little in my opinion. Sure, it's been an issue but the ability to take the NCLEX and obtain an RN license is what matters the most. And kbcc is state accredited so you'll be able to take the NCLEX no matter what drama is going on with whichever accreditation body. As long as you passed your boards, you can apply to most rn-to-bsn programs, which are accredited if that makes you feel better. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...

Iron bound .. not everyone that fails fundamentals is allowed to retake, I believe they only open 10 seats for ppl retaking and they take the ppl who failed but who's grade was on the higher side (closer to passing). Don't start panicking about that! They will never allow everyone who failed to retake.

Ha, the nervousness is getting to me. Thanks for the reassurance guys :D

Hm, I was under the assumption EVERYONE gets into pre-clinical. Poor grades/grading issues can ban you from getting in? interesting...

Oh, by the way guys, I called the Nursing department today. They said they were going to send out letters 2 weeks from today.

Not everyone gets in. I personally know at least two people that were rejected. They had all the classes but sustained mostly c's and maybe a few b's in their prereqs. And remember we all had to see a nursing counselor before even taking science 25 and had to go through a decision making process. This was so they can evaluate your transcript way before any issues can arise before applying to clinicals, which they then screen again. Well, at least that's probably the idea they had in mind I believe :p

And two weeks from today? That's sooner than I thought!

@missnomer .. did they let you guys choose what section you wanted to register for, for NUR21?

I emailed my nur 18 instructor and she said that we will be assigned. We don't get to choose.

I was also under the assumption that everyone that failed fundamentals gets to retake it. I will also say that fundamentals was tough. You really need to read everything in the book.

And you guys are right. As long as I have my RN, I should be half way there. Can't wait till I take the NCLEX.

Good luck everyone. I'm pretty sure you guys got in!

When you said fundamentals is a hard class, is it the lecture that's hard or is it the clinical portion that's hard? Or both..?

I would say both because it is pretty much all new, unless you have some prior experience working in the healthcare field.

Clinicals were fun. I think it's because of my instructor. She was amazing. Exams, on the other hand, were tough. Especially your first fundamentals exam. Most ppl bomb it and pick up by the second exam. I studied daily to prepare.

@nursingstudentjess Do you have any supplement books for med surg? I don't know which med surg book they'll be using next semester, but I bought a med surg made easy book. I'm planning to look through it in preparation for next semester. I really want to ace the class. Ughh

are_you_a_llama, what time are you taking your bio 51 class? I'm taking my bio 12 at night during the weekday, from 6-9 and 6-10. I'm just worried if this will get in the way of my regular clinical classes, scheduling wise, as they pre select your clinical schedule, apparently.

@missnomer I had tons!! Medsurg success, medsurg reviews and rationales, prioritization delegation assignment lacharity, lippincotts alternate format questions, I had a question book that came with our textbook when I ordered it (they are changing the textbook for you guys, the one we had sucked!) Saunders nclex review. There are also websites like *******, nurselabs that you can get free practice tests from! I really went overboard with the book buying but I utilized them all and did extremely well in the class. Medsurg is all about having a good grasp of knowledge and knowing how to apply it to the questions. Questions are a little different than fundamentals, there are a lot of priority questions (what would the nurse do first) like always all the answers will be right but there is one best answer. Practice questions helped me out ALOT!!!!!! Are you excited about going into the hospital this semester, I LOVED it!!! I got to see and learn sooooo much.

@missnomer .. You can brush up on fluid and electrolytes, and read up on shock and burns those are the first topics covered unless they change the curriculum.

Ahh I'm taking BIO 51 monday/thursday. 1:50pm to 5:10PM :( Dang, just realized how much time out of the week that took up. Maybe i should study now. lol
