U.S.A. New York

Published

Who else is taking the NLN this coming monday/tuesday at kingsborough? What are everyone's thoughts of science 25?? Any concerns, comments, questions please feel free to discuss them here. Future applicants feel free to ask any questions, too!

Cant wait until clinicals! Currently have a 3.97 prereq GPA, completed all prereqs except for bio 51. All A's, aside from sci 25 with an A-

Eh, not too bad, I got an 80. I should have gotten a 90 but, i second guessed myself on a number of questions. Turns out every question i second guessed myself on, my original choice was right!!! But i'm just glad I passed.

Glad you's did well! Rule of thumb always go with your gut =] continue to stay on top of studying and doing practice questions and you's will be fine ?

Sorry, I just had to pop in the convo!

Congrats to those who made it into Kingsborough's program :) I just finished this June. It goes so fast - especially your last two semesters there. All the best to everyone! :)

So the second test is coming up, and we are being tested on medications, oxygenation, physical assesment, pain management, pulse oximetry, HFA/MDI, sensory deficit, activity/rest, and hygiene. Any advice???

@ironbound I sent you a message it wouldn't let me copy and paste in the comment section.

Hey can you messege me also

@nursingstudentjess

Thanks for the email! It's not letting me reply to you. Also would you happen to know what are the eye meds we need to know? I heard that's inportrtant. And I can't find the HFA chapter and pulse oximetry do you happen to know which chapters they are?

@Futurenurse1993I the HFA/MDI is in the oxygenation chapter. And pulse oximetry is part of the vitals assessmant.

Isn't it meter dose inhaler? I saw it on the meds chapter.. Do u know the pages?

I'm like freaking out i don't know how to process all this information we have a tons of medication to memorize !!! how bad was the second test compared to the first?? i feel like I'm studying but aren't getting anything much, can you tell us was it mostly meds or was it all accumulative together!!!

HFA is the new MDI (metered dose inhaler). I think it was discussed in both chapters- oxygenation and medication.

In regards to the test...I highly doubt you need to memorize all the meds! (though I can't be 100% sure). I think we need to know the drugs, their uses, implication and the important nursing considerations/actions. It's virtually impossible to remember all the meds.

After a while of clinical experience, you will start to be more comfortable with the drugs.

For example, Digoxin:

-used to slow the heart and make it pump more efficiently

-nurse needs to monitor heart rate etc.

-lab value consideration and when to hold the med.

etc. etc. etc.

ps. Im also freaked out! but I'm trying to stay calm.
