Kingsborough Fall 2014 Clinical Applicants!
Thanks @nursingstudentjess. Is it really mostly meds? A nur18 repeat student told me that they were hyped about the meds and there were only like 3 questions etc.

HFA is the new MDI (metered dose inhaler). I think it was discussed in both chapters- oxygenation and medication. In regards to the test...I highly doubt you need to memorize all the meds! (though I can't be 100% sure). I think we need to know the drugs, their uses, implication and the important nursing considerations/actions. It's virtually impossible to remember all the meds. After a while of clinical experience, you will start to be more comfortable with the drugs. For example, Digoxin: -used to slow the heart and make it pump more efficiently -nurse needs to monitor heart rate etc. -lab value consideration and when to hold the med. etc. etc. etc. ps. Im also freaked out! but I'm trying to stay calm.

@Futurenurse1993I the HFA/MDI is in the oxygenation chapter. And pulse oximetry is part of the vitals assessmant.

Thanks! The test was much simpler than expected. There was one question that need lab value info. I made an educated guess and it was right:) of course I will start to get familiar and eventually memorize the values, I just realized late that we would need to refer to it. Btw, the worst part of the test are the 'check all that apply' questions. Get 3 right and one wrong...and the whole question is wrong...bummer

@nursingstudentjess thanks. Quick question-I saw questions on ATI that referred to lab values. Is the list to be memorized?

Kingsborough Fall 2014 Clinical Applicants!
Yup, loads of info to read. Mostly all of it we have to read and teach ourselves. They barely touch on major topics that are important. The allure of the program is just that- an allure. It's kinda lame, unprofessional, and disorganized. Plus, some of the professors gotta go!
