kind of a personal question but....

Nurses General Nursing

if you could help that would be great!!! i know alot of people dont like talking about the money they make. However; i am a student and i graduate this spring. Im very uptight with my money...i watch over it like a hawk! im all about saving money and doing what is financially the best.

What does a nurse make, on average, per month? just a ball park estimate. It would be easy for me to figure out what i would be making if i knew what i was getting paid. I have a job where i had my internship. We will be setting things up this spring so i will know then. But i DO KNOW that its going to be in a bigger hospital, a cardiac floor and i will be working full time 12 hr shift.

i have alot of payments and things to pay when im done with school. (desprate need of a new car!!, house payments, school payments and much more!)

AFTER taxes of course =)

What state are you in? If it is a union hospital you can easily find out the pay scales through reading the contract.

Wisconsin...

i want to say the pay is something like 24 an hour?? Again, i will be discussing things with them further this spring. i just finished my internship not that long ago.

I work in a suburb of Chicago & I bring home around $2700 a month, but I have insurance for both my husband & I taken out too.

I'm in Philly. Recent grad started at $28. I'm past my first year now and went on night shift at 40 hours so after all the taxes and deductions (health insurance, pre-tax parking), my biweekly paycheck is ~$2,400? Could be better but I'm still grateful :) Our sick time (we accrue a certain amount per hour we work), vacation and personal days are pretty good too.

Specializes in RN, BSN, CHDN.

Im a new grad lpn in md and make 22.50 an hr. Bi weekly I bring home an average of 1300 after taxes.

I'm an LVN in Fort Worth Texas. i have worked all types of nursing. med surge, clinic, hospice, nursing homes, homehealth, nurse manager. i dont know much about wisconsin but i have found that home health is where the money is because you generally get paid by the visit so the more patients the more money. i generally bring home around 2500 bi weekly and thats after taxes. i usually have anywhere from 15-20 patients a day and only work 4 days a week. nursing home tend to pay more than hospitals and clinics pay even less. here new grads generally start out around 20 an hour.

Thanks! all that really helps....I will be working night shift, so i think that is a couple bucks extra an hour. I'll probably pick up a 2nd job on the side for a while to help with expenses my first year.

Im in desprate need of a new car, thats the first thing that is happening! lol.

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Kudos to being watchful over your finances. No matter how much someone makes if they aren't careful they can run into problems. I think the key, at least for me, is to live simply. We don't carry debt and don't buy new things until our old things are dead. Working a 40 hour week I clear about $1,000 after taxes and health insurance fees. There are tons of opportunity for overtime so I often end up making more. Good luck.
