Congrats!!!! Quitting smoking is incredibly difficult, so you should definitely be proud. I quit during Med Surg 1 and did well. I started again during the semester break because my job requires long hours, it is from home and smoking kept me awake. I know that is a really lame excuse. I am currently down to half a pack a day from a full pack and hope to quit completely by the time I graduate in August.
I quit 16 months ago. I was a pack and a half a day smoker and quit cold turkey. It was a horrible experience and one that I don't ever want to experience again. You just have to commit to it and remember that eventually a month will have passed, and then 6, and then a year. My husband quit at the same time I did (2 pack a day smoker) and the amount of money we have saved has been astronomical. There are way more perks to quitting than continuing the habit.
Ugh I need to quit. I'm also the only smoker in my class. It has actually helped though because I don't smoke at school. I am down to a pack and a half a week I just need to take that plunge and do it. Although I'm thinking when I go back to work this summer I'm going to look into their smoking cessation program.
I'm using Chantix and it does make quitting easier, but not easy. You may want to give it a try
I think I will talk to my doctor. Years ago back in my early 20s, I did quit using Welbutrin and nicotine-free cigarettes. Since I cannot find that kind of cigarette anymore, I am thinking just some Chantix right after graduation. Again, big congrats!!! That is a huge accomplishment.
yes! I've been a smoker for about 10 years. I quit a couple years ago for 4 months and since then I fall off the wagon every couple of weeks for a night out or something, but am generally a "non - smoker".... but let's be real, I am still smoking. I'm trying to officially kick the habit before school starts or I know I'll be full blown smoking again in no time. Plus all those long hours at clinicals with no chance for a break - don't want to be "niccin".

My doctor had given me the choice of Welbutrin or Chantix. I had quit years before on Welbutrin, but began smoking again about a year later. Hate myself for that, and I also hate the fact that I started smoking in the first place. Also, you can get the e-cigs nicotine free if that helps at all. :)
Thanks for the kudos, all! I am looking forward to being a healthier person. Grats to all who have successfully quit, and good luck to those thinking about quitting.

I've been a smoker for fifteen years, and I haven't had a cigarette in 4 days. While I haven't been fun to be around in the past four days, I can't help but be pretty proud of myself.
Anyone else in the process of kicking a bad habit before starting school?!
