Kicked out of nursing school, I don't know what to do now

I just found out I got kicked out of the nursing program at hunter. I was a sophomore with two years left to go. I really don't know what my options are right now. Hunter has ruined my gpa and I've heard that no other CUNY schools will accept me now that I've been kicked out from a CUNY school but I don't really know if that is true. My gpa is a 3.07 right now. I'm considering switching over to LaGuardia or queensboro for their associatr RN program but I've heard it's really competitive and will only take 4.0 gpa. I've taken all my pre-reqs and my grades stand at;

PSYCH 100 & 150: A

ENG 120 & 220: B

Sociology 100: A+

statistics 113: B

anatomy 1: D

anatomy 2: B

Will LaGuardia or queensboro take me with a D in anatomy 1 or can I retake the course for a second chance? I also have nursing course credits as well but I don't know if other schools will accept them. I'm just really depressed now and I really don't know what to do with my life right now or what the next step will be.

I'm Lisa, an admissions advisor for ECPI University. We have a bachelor's to BSN 12- month accelerated program but you would need to spend a year with us in Lake Mary, a suburb or Orlando, during that time. If you have a bachelors, meet the prerequisite requirements, have a conferred degree GPA of 2.5 and a SGPA of 2.75, you would be considered. In addition you must pass the TEAS, which we offer on campus free of charge, with a 70% or higher. If interested you are welcome to contact me at 407-562-9044.

Hey hun .. I dont know how you feel but there is hope..try union county college in nj.. they have a nursing school called trinitas. I was there and failed a course had to sit out 1 semester .. there are other ways to become a nurse ..rn I'm looking into the lpn programs .. so figure it out but there are other options .. heads up and good luck

You have got to mitigate the damage the D did to your transcript. This means...yes, you'll have to retake that anatomy course. Most schools will consider the most recent grade (which better be better than a D) in your nursing school applications, or they'll average the two grades (so you definitely need to do better than a D) and use that. So if you want to improve your changes, get the A&P text back out and retake the course before reapplying.

I know somebody who got kicked out of nursing school, waited couple years and was admitted to a new school.

So in the grand scheme of things, your misfortune is not fatal. The real question is do you want to be in this profession? This is one of those events that happens to test your resolve to be a nurse. It didn't happen because people hate you. It's just a test and it's not the end.

I don't like being a nurse. It's degrading and it destroys my self-esteem. So even though I never got kicked out of the program, maybe I should have been. It would have been a favor and a blessing.

Sometimes God throws a wrench in your sprockets because he has your back and he wants to steer you towards a different career that will be more fulfilling.

I agree with all of the other comments on here encouraging you to retake that A&P course. I bet at one point MOST of us didn't do as well as we wanted to in a class and had to re-evaluate our study habits, our learning styles, our time management, etc. I took chemistry my first semester back to college after I had graduated with an English degree 3 years prior, and it really forced me to look at what I was doing wrong and how I could improve. As much as I hated dropping the class because it felt like defeat, I can honestly say I learned a lot from that experience, and it led me to research the most effective study skills and understand the difference between sciences and the humanities. This led me to do much better in subsequent science classes, and I eventually re-took chemistry and did well. You will probably enjoy more success if you do this first instead of panicking about your next nursing program.

Just in case it felt like people were attacking you, the reason they were asking about how did any college do this to you and your GPA is only to help you. If you keep putting blame on the school or teachers, you'll just repeat the same mistakes wherever you go next. Take accountability for your GPA so you can take control and fix it. It's empowering to you when you do that.

Anyway also it's empowering to you to call the schools yourself and find out these answers. Sometimes they're hard to get in touch with but keep calling and calling and asking for someone else if you don't get the answers.

Well said!

The fact that you have refused/neglected to re-take the A & P class will be quite telling to most nursing school admissions directors.

Just get a bachelors in health science and then apply to Wagner and seton hall as a second degree student Wagner will def accept you I failed Patho and pharm and failed out of LIU nursing because I got two Cs my first semester and Wagner accepted me and I know multiple people who failed and got into seton hall still. It's very expensive though but don't be depressed everything happens for a reason trust me I been there I know how you feel right now if you need any help you can email me at [email protected]

Stop what you are doing and starting owning your own effort and mistakes. You write "Hunter ruined my GPA..." NO YOU ruined your GPA!! It isn't the college's fault, it's yours!! Once you take ownership of that then you need to think about what you can do to do better next time!!!

After all of that, then you can look at other schools and speak with some advisors. I strongly suggest you retake any class you got less then a B in, probably even less than an A to be honest for your gen ed classes, and then reapply!!

The anatomy class at hunter is known for being very hard. I know it may sound like im pushing the blame onto the school's rigorous classes but after taking anatomy and receiving a D, my gpa has plummeted and is now a 3.07. Many nursing schools in the city require a high GPA in order to be admitted and my GPA is just not up to par. Im considering St. Pauls school of nursing as well because Ive heard they will accept people as long as they pay the expensive tuition. Does anyone know how the tuition pricing works at St. pauls? is it based on price per credit, im hoping to cut down the tuition price because i have several prerequisites i can transfer over. Will my tuition be drastically reduced?

Welcome to college, you have to suck it up buttercup!!! I am not trying to be harsh, but there is a reason 100% of the population doesn't have a college degree, because it isn't suppose to be a piece of cake!!!

I also know of no nursing programs that will accept an A and P transfer with a D, most won't even accept a C!

"Its just a test not the end" I completely agree with you on that. This could be a blessing in disguise; there is a reason. Do not give up! I encourage you to take the time to look deep within yourself and understand why this happened. And if you truly want to become a nurse, you can do it! Those who fail often are the most successful in the end! I encourage you to keep going because one day you will finally come to an understanding of why God lead you down this path and you will be so much more appreciative of your nursing career!
