Kentucky Board KARE

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi there,

I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who is in the Kentucky Board of Nursing's KARE program. I thought this would be a good place to share/exchange info and lend some support to one another! :angrybird12:

@rnsam92 Yes, this one is a standard panel. It tests for alcohol, not etg. It was also the one I most frequently was selected for. Panel J (789373) also includes etg. I would get that one occasionally. And I would get an O panel 3-4 times per year. I always assumed that any of those “special” panels include etg. I very rarely drank before (or after) my contract. That wasn’t my issue. But I was always so paranoid of an unintentional alcohol exposure! I was in KARE for an opiate addiction (that resulted in diversion) - But funny enough, I NEVER once worried about a positive for opiates/opioids- just paranoid about etgs! Thankfully, I never had a positive etg in the 5 years, though.

I got tested now 3 days ago and I check my spectrum app and note the specimen hasn’t even been put in the lab yet.it doesn’t even show on the app that I was tested..I’m clean but I’m a nervous wreck as to why..anyone out there had this same issue and if so what’s the reason for the delay?

3 days ago would’ve been Friday right? Sometimes things don’t show up until Monday because of the weekend. If you went to a collection site that has to send it to lab Corp that can delay things as well. I usually don’t see it appear as “received at lab” for at least 24hrs and that’s if it’s a weekday. I’d check again later today and if it’s still not there call the collection site and see if lab corp has picked it up yet.

Don't get hung up on these things, as long as you know you are clean, that's all that matters. Early on, I would get myself whipped up into a state over these things, I had a similar thing happen to me before and although I knew I was clean, I kept tripping about it. It was all fine in the end, I tell you what I do now, I don't even check the site anymore for my results, don't need to, I know I'm clean and that's all that matters. Don't stress yourself about the small stuff, keep focused on your recovery, and it all works out!

Thanks guys/gals .misery loves company i sounds like we al have anxiety...curious tho is our test a simple strip test or do al test get the GS/MS lab treatment?? I ask this because I’ve had 2 test come up that was abnormal and out of range due to high creatinine level which I attributed this to taking pre workout stuff

Our tests are not strip tests. Dude, my VERY FIRST drug screen was abnormal- I was in total meltdown mode- because it was over the weekend, and all the site said was "abnormal" . It ended up being a creatinine thing for me as well, but LAWDY, it makes you sweat when you see the abnormal on there! That's why for my own sanity, I just stopped checking, I figure my monitoring agent will let me know if it's something I need to worry about! How far along are you in the program now?

Anybody know what panel o-792441 is? This is the first time I’ve gotten it and I don’t think it’s a coincidence it’s after a dilute specimen. I’m just wondering because it’s $65 instead of the usual $41.50

Anyone able to offer advice on where to apply for a job/know a company that’s accepting of KARE nurses? My license was reinstated in Feb and I’ve had lots of interviews but no job offers...starting to feel very discouraged. I’ve applied to dialysis, psych, office jobs, case management.. almost everything you can think of where me not being able to give a controlled substance would be an issue. Prior to KARE all my experience has been in the ICU. Any tips would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Hey I know it’s frustrating. My first job in recovery was dialysis. I worked their 2 years. Then a job as an infection control nurse in an assistive living center came open really close to me Just a few months ago , so I applied and got it. The best places are dialysis clinics, psych facilities, LTC, fast care clinics and case manager jobs . The BON took so long getting to my case that by the time I was placed on probation this past October - I was already working at a LTC facility , I had to explain to my don that what I was put on probation for happened back in 2016 and that I’ve been sober a long time and went to rehab and such. She was very understanding. Luckily I knew her well and had worked with her before at a another LTC center. Keep trying something will come up. Do you have nurse friends who could put in a good word for you where they work? That’s how I got the dialysis job- a friend helped me . Hang in there. God bless!! ??❤️

Yes, finding a job can be very challenging and disheartening. Where in KY are you located?

Anybody had any luck getting hired on with davita dialysis? I have an interview Tuesday but after so many interviews I don’t have high expectations. I know dialysis is usually good with hiring KARE nurses though
