Kennesaw State Univeristy application for 2011

Published

Hello All!

I just applied for Kennesaw State University's traditional BSN program today. I'm writing to see if anyone else has recently applied (or plans on applying soon). It would be awesome to hear from people in the same boat....those who have applied and are anxiously awaiting KSU's response or those that have been through this already. It would be nice to know that I'm not alone! :)

To get an idea of how competitive things are, it would be great if we could share with each other the following:

GPA, Pre-Req GPA (7 out of the 12 corse classes, 5 of which need to be math or science) & TEAS Score.

I don't know my overall GPA...something around a 3.4.

My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (4 B's, 3 A's).

I scored a 86 on my TEAS.

I would love to hear from people that have recently been accepted (or know someone that has). If you don't mind sharing, please let me know what you received for your GPA, pre-req GPA & Teas score.

I would also like to know if anyone has an idea of the time-line for KSU sending out the interview invite letters.

Thanks!! :nurse:

That's crazy (UGAbelle). She just told me about a friend of her's who interviewed recently when we had lunch together the other day. I guess that would be you! How did you figure out it was me?? Anyway, that's too funny...it really is a small world!! I agree...we will have to meet up some time. Summer will be here before you know it too and then we will be meeting up every day (well, just about!).

Does anyone know the exact weekly schedule? I applied for the traditional program because I thought it would at least give me a chance to get a few hours of work (to be determined exactly where, since I'll be quitting my full time job in May) each week. Is class 5 days a week for the summer? How about the other semesters?

According to the Summer 2010 schedule:

BIOL 3317 MW 2:00-4:45

NURS 3209 T Th 8:00 - 11:45am lecture and 12:30-2:30 or 2:45-4:45 lecture

NURS 3309 MW 8:00- 12:45

I think clinicals are Fridays 7:00am-1:00pm

Specializes in Geriatrics.

I was just wondering about what we might be needing as well. I am looking for the best book idea to brush up on calculations. Also I would love to go to the CPR with you all, so let me know when you all are going so I can register. I am on campus on tue, thurs and friday for lunch.

I am also in the over 30 group being 34. I have a 13 year old daughter and an 11 year old son. Looks like we have an ole' fogies group forming, lol. Speaking of being an old fogie I am going to have to get used to not going to bed at 9pm. Nursing school will probably be like having a newborn again, staying up at all hours.

look forward to posting with you guys.

Do you guys know if we wear scrubs during our clinicals?

KSU has students wear a white "uniform" with a white zip-up top. Sometimes they are allowed to wear black scrubs (embroidered with the KSU logo). I am not sure when the scrubs are allowed. They all have to be ordered from http://www.meridys.com

KSU will provide us with the passcode, hopefully sometime soon.

Looks like my credit card is going to get some use when we start ordering all this stuff. I really wish orientation was earlier than 2 weeks before classes start.

Hi everyone!! I got into the program @ KSU also. It looks as if I may be the youngest in the group @ 24. I feel so far behind because you all know about books and CPR classes. I have not gotten any info about this. Does anybody know where I can go to take a CPR class? I also was wondering about the schedule because I wanted to get a few work hours in week also. When do we register? I have so many questions and feel like its so little time!! Will anybody else be commuting to KSU daily because I live in Jonesboro and will be driving up daily. This is going to be a hectic 2 semesters for me because I am also planning my wedding for November!! I look forward to meeting you all!!

I am looking for the best book idea to brush up on calculations.

I am currently in my 2nd semester at KSU and this is the book you will use throughout nursing school that they recommend you buy.

mzdawgs4,

Congratulations on the wedding! That is exciting! and congratulations on your entrance to the nursing program. I'll try to answer some of your questions...

The hours have been posted on OwlExpress, but registration times haven't been posted yet. It looks like we will have classes MW 8:00-2:45, TTH 8:00-2:00 and clinicals will be on Fridays (not sure what time).

The Center for Health & Wellness do CPR classes. Here is a PDF of spring dates http://www.kennesaw.edu/col_hhs/wellness/events/events_files/2011%20Spring%20Events.pdf But double check to make sure this is the CPR class you will need for the nursing program. I work at the hospital and already have my certification. Also, Since you live so far away, you could check to see if the Red Cross offers the class somewhere closer to you.

I heard from someone that we should get the 'Calculate with Confidence' book and brush up on our math skills.

I hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else. I think we will need everyone's help to survive this first semester. :o

Summer 2011 class schedule has been posted:

BIOL 3317 MW 1-3:45pm

NURS 3209 TTh 8am-11:45 lecture, 12:30-2:30pm

NURS 3309 MW 8am-12pm

not sure about clinicals

We have some long days ahead of us. I am going to email Fran to find out when we should be getting packets to see what we need to get started on. Did anyone by chance apply for any scholarships at Kennesaw? I am trying to find anything to help pay for this...ugh..I can't go into debt in the next 18 months. I applied for a scholarship through West Georgia Health in Lagrange, Ga. It is through the Calloway Foundation and they will pay for your schooling in exchange for working there. It's called the Sims Scholarship. Well I got an interview to meet with the committee next Wed. Has anyone heard of this scholarship and did any of you apply to it? I am wondering the kinds of questions they ask. I am so excited to get started but also feel so out of the loop since we have not received any paperwork.

FYI-just make sure there are no holds on anything that you all have. It seems I have to get a transcript for a study abroad program and they have a hold on my registration until I get it to them. I was told by admissions a couple of weeks ago that everything was in order and I didn't need to give them that transcript but when I went onto owlexpress today, I still had the hold and they now want the transcript. So just double and triple check they have everything they need. I know we have guaranteed spots but it will save in the headache down the road.

Can't wait to meet everyone. Hopefully, we will hear something soon.

Looks like the next adult CPR class offered is on April 8th from 10am-3pm. Cost is $20. It looks like 12 per class. I will also ask Fran if we should go ahead and sign up for CPR and if this is in fact the course we are supposed to take.
