Anyone else out there applying to KSU's nursing program for Spring admission? Post your stats and whether you are applying for accelerated or traditional. I just submitted my application for traditional.
My stats are:
Overall GPA: 4.0
5/7 GPA: 4.0
7/12 GPA: 4.0
TEAS: 88%
Competitive Score: 87.6/90
****Total GPA- 20 points (multiply your GPA by 20 then divide by 4)
Top 5/7 - 30 points (math and science GPA only, multiplied by 30 then divide by 4)
Top 7/12-20 points (same as total GPA calculation)
TEAS 20 points - multiply by 20 then divide by 100
This gives you your competitive score
KSU's nursing program is very tight lipped about the criteria they use to determine which applicants get accepted, so anything you read, hear, were told is rumor, gossip, hearsay, sorority talk, urban legend, etc. unless it directly came from an admission committee member (which they would never reveal), so take it with a grain of salt. Even regular employees and faculty in the nursing department do not know or are not allowed to reveal. The program is highly competitive so it's hard to determine exactly how they choose who gets in, but it's not unreasonable that people with great stats gets denied when the top 200 people likely have the exact same stats, i.e. 3.9 - 4.0 GPA and 90+ on the TEAS, and all are competing for ~90/~40 spots.
I have "heard" that they use or have used some type of "competitive score" using the formula on the first post to grade applicants. I asked an adviser who was formerly on the admission committee about this formula and she was so slippery in NOT answering the question.... However, this adviser also told me that the nursing program is currently considering other metrics on how to grade applicants for the upcoming application cycles ( Spr '18 included), WHATEVER THE F THAT MEANS. I also know *personally* someone who had terrible stats and got in. So there's obviously other factors at play, such as affirmative action, race, age, and other demographics?
At any rate, decisions should start to come out next week or two, based on other spring semester threads. I wish you all the best of luck! I hope we will be classmates. You will know who I am, I kinda stand out a bit :)
I think it is pretty standard how everyone gets in. They don't ask for volunteer hours or letters of recommendation. A guidance counselor for Thrive gave us that same formula. Here and there people may get in because of affirmative action or someone sees their name, but its not a mystery.

I received an email in early August requesting my grades from summer. They wanted my English 1102 grade and they wanted to see which classes I was enrolled in for Fall. With the completion of 1102 in the summer, I have completed all nursing pre-reqs. I think they wanted to make sure I had the second English
