Kennesaw State Nursing Spring 2018

Published

Anyone else out there applying to KSU's nursing program for Spring admission? Post your stats and whether you are applying for accelerated or traditional. I just submitted my application for traditional.

My stats are:

Overall GPA: 4.0

5/7 GPA: 4.0

7/12 GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 88%

Competitive Score: 87.6/90

****Total GPA- 20 points (multiply your GPA by 20 then divide by 4)

Top 5/7 - 30 points (math and science GPA only, multiplied by 30 then divide by 4)

Top 7/12-20 points (same as total GPA calculation)

TEAS 20 points - multiply by 20 then divide by 100

This gives you your competitive score

Hello. I have been trying to apply to the nursing program. Do I need to be accepted by KSU before I can apply to the nursing program? I have access to the owl express but I can't seem to fin the application.

From the website you " Must have an active application on file to attend Kennesaw State University or a currently enrolled student. Must be able to log into Owl Express to access application for Nursing." The application itself is ridiculously short once u find it on Owl Express. It takes literally less than 15 seconds to fill out...

Sorry may be double post. I'm new here.

Hello all,

I am new to the site and trying to figure out my competitive score. I have applied to KSU for the Spring 2018 program. I have a couple of questions/concerns about the calculation of the score.

What exactly is included in the top 5/7 and the top 7/12? Do you include math/sciences in the top 7/12?

How would you calculate GPA for sciences if you have different grades in the labs? (I.e. A in lecture/ B in lab and vice versa)

I have a low GPA due to low grades in classes that aren't prerequisites but still hurt my competitive score.

I hope you guys can help me figure out all this! Thank you everyone in advance and good luck!

From the KSU nursing website, traditional/accelerated requirements:

Must complete at least 7 of the following 12 prerequisite courses prior to applying to the nursing program—all 12 must be completed prior to entering the NURS 3209—Holistic Nursing course:

MATH 1101 or MATH 1111 (or higher)—Math Modeling or College Algebra

STAT 1107 (formerly MATH 1107)—Statistics

CHEM 1151 and CHEM 1151L—Chemistry I & Lab*

CHEM 1152 and CHEM 1152L—Chemistry II & Lab*

BIOL 2221 and BIOL 2221L—Anatomy and Physiology I & Lab*

BIOL 2222 and BIOL 2222L—Anatomy and Physiology II & Lab*

BIOL 2261 and BIOL 2261L—Microbiology & Lab*

ENGL 1101—Composition I

ENGL 1102—Composition II

PSYC 1101—General Psychology

PSYC 3305—Life-Span Developmental Psychology

SOCI 1101—Introduction to Sociology

7/12 is from above pre-reqs. 5/12 is math and science. I have read in previous posts from other semesters that KSU does not consider lecture/ lab separately: If you have A in lecture and B in lab, then they consider you have an A for that class. However, if you have an A in lecture and C in lab, they take avg, so you have a B in that class.

Good luck!

Hi, also applied to the Spring '18 class, after not making the Fall '17 due to not having completed Chem II. I was told there were over 800 applicants, many were very competitive, and it seems like maybe 10% were taken? There are far fewer spots vs. applicants. So I see some of you say that the wait is until mid-end September? Wow, that seems a long time with the June 31 deadline.

I have As in all maths and sciences except Stat, which is a B, and made a 92 on the TEAS. I can only imagine this will be competitive, but it all depends on how many apply, I suppose. It's crazy the space is so tight to get in!

Good luck to everyone hoping and waiting, I would love to be able to start in January and meet some of you.

Best,

@atannery Hi there! The nursing program does usually only accept 10% out of all the applicants. Looking at your stats, it looks really good! I had the same TEAS score as you and I also had one B in anatomy I and was able to get in for Spring. The decisions usually come out mid-september (I got mine on Sept 14), and good luck to you and all of you here!

Does anyone know when we should be hearing back from the school?

I think mid September is about when we will hear. Good luck!

I was told decisions would be made available mid September. Does anyone know how they communicate the decisions? Email? Snail-mail?

I believe they send them to your school email.

They will send it to your student email first and then your regular email shortly after. They don't send letters anymore

Idk about you guys, but this anticipation is killing me!!

I'm hoping to apply for fall 2018, but am confused about the 5/7 score. The KSU website requirements say nothing about needing to have 5 of the math and science classes completed before applying. When I apply, I will have completed 3 science courses and have AP credit for statistics. So, I won't have a grade for 5 math and science classes, but I will have completed 10/12 prereqs, with just Chem I and Chem II left to take in spring and summer semester.
