Kennesaw Accelerated BSN Fall 2010

Published

Hey,

I'm new to this site and would like some information/advice on the interviewing process. I haven't heard anything about the interview which sucks, but I have to prepare....Does anyone know when they will be mailing out the interview letters? What kinds of questions do they ask? If you do not mind to share your GPA and TEAS with me also. Thanks so much! Best wishes for those who have applied!

Anxious,

TT22

Wow bdanders, you're doing a good job here. You're everywhere up & down responding to people's concerns. Thanks a lot for taking your time to do this. God bless you.

yes, thank you so much for your help!!!

And thank you for letting us know the sign up is up and running! I was going to set my alarm for a ridiculous hour since I can only interview on 3/31. Now I can sleep more soundly :D:D

Is anyone else signed up for 3/31? I took the 1:30 time slot....

YEA!!!

I have not received a letter yet and I can not sign up for an interview through OwlExpress, so I guess I didn't make it. :crying2:

I have not received a letter yet and had just come to peace with not getting an interview at KSU. I did login to the website, however, and it looks like I am able to sign up. I was accepted to Valdosta State University's Accelerated BSN program for Summer and was planning to go there (get in and out of school more quickly), but one of my best friends lives in Atlanta and says if I get an interview at KSU I should definitely still go. I'm a Florida girl (Go Gators!), and I really don't know anything about Georgia schools, can someone help me out?

Here are some things to keep in mind: 1) I'm a TERRIBLE interviewee, TERRIBLE. 2) My GPA is HORRIBLE. (Maybe like 2.8 overall at best...about 3.8 prereq.) 3) My TEAS score is probably the only thing that got me an interview (I got a 96.5).

Should I even bother driving 7.5 hours there and interviewing, or should I be happy I finally got into a program and just go to VSU? Thanks!

Is there NCLEX pass rate as good as KSU's? KSU's nursing program has a very good reputation and the school itself also is respected. If VSU is a really good program, then you already have want you want AND you get to start in the summer, unless you want the adventure of moving further away. I would rather start sooner if it were me. I've been at KSU for 2 1/2 years and the professors are very impressive. That's great that you got into a program!!!

Sokpheapsar: Don't be sad! Getting in is just a strategy thing. Figure out what needs to be tweaked. We were all ready to do that because most people have a weakness in some part of what they are looking at! And you're young....the sky's the limit. It's not like they looked at YOU and turned you down. That's one thing that I'm not crazy about in how they do this because you get turned down before they know anything about the real you!

keno2, thank you for your post! It's very disheartening but I am going to keep on trying! I've made A's and B's in all of my prereqs and an 85.6 on my TEAS. Can you or anyone suggest what I can do to increase my chances for the next term?

Are you currently at KSU? I wonder if that had anything to do w/ it? I think in one part of their website it says "longevity MAY be considered" and I think the other part says it does not weigh into it so I don't know if it's considered or not.

I think a TEAS at 89-90 and up gets their attention in a favorable way so you could aim for that. You could also schedule to meet w/ Fran and she'll get all of your grades and score in front of her and you can discuss strategies for getting in. I've known of people not to get in, even after the interview, and try again and get in the second time. They like to see that people are tenacious and do not quit (at least that's what her husband said). One person tried 3 times and then got it. So see, that person was qualified all along for the program, but there just weren't enough seats.

Also, Emory and GSU would be good to try, but Emory's application period ended 1/15 and it's once per year for traditional BSN. Fran told me from day 1 to apply at many places. The neat thing about Emory is they base things on an essay, 3 letters of recommendation and GPA so they can see more of the real you. Also, there are a lot of scholarships at Emory.

If it were me, I'd ask to meet w/ Fran and discuss how you are going to make this happen and what weaknesses she sees in your stats and grades and what she would suggest. It's not weaknesses in YOU, just numbers since that's all they base things on to get an interview! Most college students are just having a grand old time and not worried about all this stuff like we are!

Thank you so very much keno! :)

Also, the program at Mercer in Atlanta seems to take a more holistic approach to admissions. Their deadline is not until Mat 1st--so there is still plenty of time to apply for Fall. It's a 2 year traditional program, and they offer scholarship funding as well.

They admit on a rolling basis and get back with you quickly. I was admitted with 2 weeks of my application being complete.

Honestly, I've been very impressed with their level of customer service!

It makes sense to apply apply apply--give yourself as many opportunities as possible. GSU, West Georgia and Clayton State also offer BSN programs...

Don't give up! :)

Yes, I spoke w/ the rep. of Mercer at the nursing fair at KSU recently and she was very nice and said they looked at the individual. She also mentioned that they require an interview because they can tell a lot from that. It's just so very far for me that I didn't consider them otherwise, from what I hear, they are very good. On a side note, she mentioned that you could get a master's in nursing ed. there completely free because colleges need educators so badly.
