ok - listen - First this is a second career for me and- Two, Cosmetolgy was my first for many years.
I am so accustomed to the world of beauty as I know it with glamourous hair and well manicured nails and such and I feel like I am always this plain Jane all the time. I just wanna run out and get a nice french manicure, french pedicure and stick my foot in a sexy shoe, not some danskos -you know? I am sick of this dog gone pulled back look and or ponytail. I just feel so un-sexy all the time and it starting to affect my self esteem. Not that any of that makes you, but it has been a part of me for so looooong. You know how it is when you get done up and you get an instant bit of swagger in your walk. I'm having some trouble adjusting sometimes. I don't feel like this most days at all but when I do - boy do I feel it. When off the clock, I'm too tired to even care about sexy. It's so sad, because all I do is find some more unsexy clothes like sweats when off the clock- so I am constantly in a state of unsexy.
Sometimes codes can be a very sexy time. Especially when I am working with this one male nurse and this one paramedic. When they are doing compressions, they get all sweaty and their biceps and forearms bulge. Not to mention the close quarters we are working in, I can't tell you the number of times someone has shown a little too much skin when their hands are busy, or the number of times when someone brushes something against your something, and you can't move or you won't get the line in, etc, afterwards we always apologize and have a good laugh, and at the time my mind may be thinking "not pure" things. And we are a level 1 state of the art teaching hospital, one of the best in the world, we have an awesome recovery rate from arrests, but it can be hard on you seeing so much trauma/critical illness. During many of our codes you can hear us joking or laughing, or talking about a movie we saw, it doesn't affect our care it just helps us deal with what we see everyday. I hate going to codes on floors where they don't see codes much, everyone is scared to death, and can't think straight about what they are doing, in my opinion this is a much worse thing for the patient. Our codes run like a well oiled machine, most of the time I can just look at my co-workers and they know what I want them to do, same with the docs. Its important to make codes as non-stressful as possible, it improves outcomes
oh lord one time i was working a code and my pants about fell down. i was so embarassed.
the doctor that was intubating was like, seven feet tall. he was raising the bed while i was trying to climb up on top of the bed and continue compressions. since i'm short, i usually walk on the ends of my pants anyways. well when i got on leg up and one leg on the floor, i think what happened was my pants were under my other foot and when i went to swing that leg up the pants started to fall down, and as i continued compressions, my pants kept showing more and more crack until a tech was kind enough to hold them up for me until i could get down off the bed.
I was a beautiful young whipper in my twenties... but by no means sexy. Very insecure.
I AM sexy now.
I learned it's ok to have a body that's not perfect. If you exude confidence, well then, who's looking at your "flaws"? Answer: they're really not.
I would have given anything to understand that when I was younger.
BUT I'M GLAD I DO NOW!!!!

Although I agree with you that confidence and sex appeal tend to tend to peak with increasing age I still stand my point,I'm sorry I was just disgusted by one of the stories on this board about some male nurse looking at his future wife breast while trying to rescue one of the patient,totally unprofessional,shocking,and so very human (unfortunately I sadly add)

I got a kick out of that.
A young 20-something laddie was helping me hold down an extremely strong, big and violent male patient. We were both sweating, just PRAYING for the RN to hurry back with an IM cocktail to calm this patient down.
I was bent over using all my strength to keep control over the patient and the young man helping me... was staring down my scrub top.
No time to fuss or fix it. This patient was in a fighting mood and I would rather deal with a leer down my shirt than a fist in my face from a psychotic angry man!
I never struggled so dang hard to hold someone down. I truly thought he'd break loose and slam my *** into the wall so hard, I surely die!
Now, after all is said and done, this coworker and I are sitting, holding onto each side of the patient (who had had his shot and was beginning to calm but still unpredictable) and the patient looks groggily at each of us and sizes us up.
"Young man, I could've taken you down" says the patient, "I didn't do NEAR as much damage to you as I could have... because of HER."
The patient turns to me, "And Little Girl, I don't know what you think you can do to ME, but I suspect not much... but then, I don't know how good you are."
With out missing a beat, my coworker eagerly jumps in, "Oh she's GOOOOD!!":eek:
He said it just a TAD too eagerly... and it sounded sorta... lol... dirty, I guess. :imbar
As soon as he said it, he turned beat red and we were stuck in awkward silence in a tiny room for another loooong 10 minutes, holding on to the patient so he wouldn't run off.
Been there guys, embarassing things happen a lot during codes, but it gives us ammunition against our coworkers, once had my pants showing off a bit too much too, just like you said, I'm 4'11" 94 lbs, so I always get to do the ride on the bed thing, they will talk about my color choice skivvies for a week. Once had a very quiet, kinda backwards attending on and he was doing a particularly hard intubation, well he took a little too long and the RRT was finally like back off a minute and let me bag (sat 72%) and she was eagerly waiting to pounce and he raised up at just the right time and got a face full of her enormous bosom. I have seen people needing the heimlich less red, it was so funny to watch him scamper, and apologize, he still begs us to let that go. We sent him cards from "her" for weeks professing her love, and everytime she saw him she would say, if I ever code I want Dr. so and so there, he really knows how to treat a gal. Sometimes we have too much fun!

what's wrong with looking?
once you become a nurse you don't lose your libido. you aren't a robot. sometimes if something is right in front of your face, it's hard not to look. men are human. it's animal instinct.
i'd be lying if i said i didn't ever check out the firefighters i worked with when i was a paramedic.

i had the biggest crush on a neuro resident once. he was young and he was hot stuff and he KNEW it.
me and the rest of the ladies in the ER would just swoon when we had a neuro consult. he was bent over the nurse's desk writing orders once, and one of the nurses got up right behind him and started doing all these obscene gestures, bc she didn't think he would turn around for a while.
he turned around and was like "nurse heather, are you having a seizure?"
omg.
he's now an attending at that same hospital.... and i don't think he bends over the nurse's desk anymore.
he was always a lovely guy to talk to as far as personality wise (definately not a neuro-god), but he knew he was nice looking, so i think that's why he put up with us ladies drooling all the time.
he ended up marrying a nurse from med/surg, actually.

That is so funny!! I almost spit Coke on my laptop. One of our docs who was very nice, but very good and he knew it, and always tried to act very professional at work. Well one day he started to tell me (in confidence) about how he thought my RN friend was so hot and how he got so nervous around her, and did I think she would go on a date with him, blah, blah, blah. Well when we turned around, not only was she standing there, but so was one of our PAs (she's a big smarta$$) and a few other nurses. I thought he was gonna die!! They did go on a few dates, but I think he couldn't get over his embarassment (that and how we all gave him so much crap!), he is now back to being MR. Professional, and it takes a lot more for me to get a smile out of him.
Oh and by the way, nothing gets me more than to see some of our flight nurses in their uniforms, sooo hot!!! And we have an ortho doc and a PA just like the one you described, very, very sexy (tall, dark, and handsome), we are all great friends, but they know that we drool about them to each other when the trauma is done and they leave the room. When they come up to talk to us, we all stop whatever we are doing so we can all say hi like little school girls, sure helps on those bad nights to have something so pretty to look at.
My husband and his friends (as well as our male co-workers) all say the same thing about me and my RN friends- female nurses have the dirtiest minds ever, they are generalizing but when it comes to the group I know, they are so right!
Where does this come from? Have been hurt bad before by someone?? What is keeping you from getting in touch with you sexy side? Do you know this couple personally? What she said about him in her post made him sound like a really good guy, I'm just wondering what it was that made you come to this conclusion?
