KCC ADN and PRCN Program

Published

Hi everyone! So, I was just wondering if any of you guys know my chances in getting in the ADN program at KCC. I'm applying for Fall of 2014 and to be honest, I'm not really confident about my application... Just thinking about applying makes me nervous just because I know how competitive it is. Also, if you guys think applying for the PRCN program for KCC is a good idea also. Please let me know, thank you guys so much!

Cumulative GPA: 3.6

Pre-req: 5 A's and 5 B's

Co-req: Only completed one with an A (taking the other one this semester)

TEAS score: 71.3%

No work experience :(

Thanks! And don't give up guys! If it's something you really want I'm sure you'll get it (:

I got into the ADN program (: I think they only accepted 18 students for Fall semester cuz that's what it says for class availability for NURS 210, but I'm not sure..

It's okay Kayla, next semester we got this ;)

Cupycake, if it's only 18, that's such a small amount! :/

I only applied to the ADN program at KCC :)

Cupycake: only 18?? That's ridiculous! I emailed one of the councelors before submitting my app & they told me every semester they let in usually around 30-40 people..

brittanieee: yes we do! lol i'm trying to be positive cause I know we'll make it someday :) are you gonna apply for Manoa too for Spring?

I know.. only 18 is crazy! I guess they didn't have enough instructors? Hopefully they'll start having more seats open again

I hope so! So you go to KCC? May I ask you what you submitted to Manoa, just so I know what I need to submit when I apply :) I know it's early, but I just anna know lol because I heard most of the people who apply don't do the admission process correctly...

Yeah, I go to KCC. The Manoa application is actually easier than the KCC application :) All you really have to submit is the self-evaluation checklist and a hard copy of your TEAS scores. Oh, and don't forget to turn in the UH system application at least a month before turning in the nursing application (if you're not already a UHM student). I submitted the UH System application about 6 weeks before the nursing application. Here's the link with the application instructions: http://www.nursing.hawaii.edu/sites/web41.its.hawaii.edu.www.nursing.hawaii.edu/files/documents/OSS/BS%20Application%20Instruction.pdf

Good luck.. I know you can do it!

thank you so much! i'm just sad that I have to wait half a year to apply again :( but i'm seriously so happy that you got in! keep everyone updated on how the program goes for you! :)

Also Cupycake, how did you study for the TEAS test?? I took it already and got a low score, so i'm retaking it again this Friday. I've read over the whole book (again) took hand written notes and I even purchased the online practice test... I'm still scared my score will be low

It's a little scary to be starting already lol.. everything happened so fast now it's like being thrown into the program. I'm sure the next 6 months will fly by for you. And you're still so young! I wish I knew what I wanted to do at 19-20 years old (:

About the TEAS: I was out of school for over 5 years, and I didn't remember anything! I didn't even remember basic things in math like adding fractions, so I had to teach myself everything all over again. So if I can do it, so can you! I would definitely take all the practice tests from the TEAS book and the online practice tests too. The more practice tests you can take, the better! I also made sure that I knew everything from this link: https://allnurses.com/teas-exam-help/how-i-passed-804222.html That person got the same score as me and pretty much everything he/she explained was on the test. Watch YouTube videos for anything you don't really understand. This was a big help for me when it came to the science section. There are also some videos from people who took the TEAS and explain what kind of questions were on the exam, so those were pretty helpful too :)

thank you so much for the advice! yeah, i hope it goes by fast, i just really want to get started with my nursing career... i really appreciate you giving me tips & advice! :)

I am on the wait list for fall 2014. I was accepted fall 2013 but withdrew because of a complicated pregnancy. I'm hoping I get in! And I hope the LCC cohort is available since I live on the west side. So they told you that there should be more than 18 spots available Ellers??

aww man, i got a 74% on my TEAS retake =/ so frustrating! i guess i'll have to try again in three months...
