Hi everyone! So, I was just wondering if any of you guys know my chances in getting in the ADN program at KCC. I'm applying for Fall of 2014 and to be honest, I'm not really confident about my application... Just thinking about applying makes me nervous just because I know how competitive it is. Also, if you guys think applying for the PRCN program for KCC is a good idea also. Please let me know, thank you guys so much!
Cumulative GPA: 3.6
Pre-req: 5 A's and 5 B's
Co-req: Only completed one with an A (taking the other one this semester)
TEAS score: 71.3%
No work experience

I recently graduated from the KCC nursing program and passed my boards ...
We didn't take the TEAS for entry, but instead took the Nln so I can't help you in that area score wise
But my pre req gpa was 3.9
Co req gpa was 4.0
And had prior CNA experience.
I wait listed but about two weeks then got accepted
KCC is a great program, and it's true that it's very competitive ( but so worth it)
The admission rate really depends on how competitive the scores of those applying for your semester are, in your case for Fall.
So if everyone applying has great scores, it's harder to get in.
I would recommend keeping your grades, scores and experience competitive.
With the new program' you can automatically transition to UH Manoa for your BSN which is a great deal,
Good luck and feel free to ask me any more questions.
Congratulations! Thank you for replying! I was debating on taking the NLN, but then I'm just going to retake the TEAS test to get a higher score and maybe retake classes that I got a B in for an A. I'm hoping to get in the ADN program, but I know it's very hard... I don't want to wait forever to get in either. So, that's why I considered the PRCN, which when I get the certificate, I can work somehow and gain experience? Then apply again for the ADN program or even straight for the BSN at Manoa. I'm just really scared... Lol thank you so much for replying though! How was the program??
The program was not easy, I truly believe once getting in that the application process was the easiest part of it all. It's a lot of work...a lot. But as I mentioned before, so worth it .. Retaking classes to get better grades is a good idea (I did it for some) if you have time. You can do the PN route but it takes a little longer if you decide to transition into the ADN program if you add all the time you spend together. I suggest you seek out one of the nursing counselors at KCC for pre nursing counseling (they're great help). If you have time to retake your entrance exam, do it if you prefer. But I would say to just apply if a deadline is coming up...the worst that can happen is they say no :) don't give up!
Manoa has a good program as well...I did the KCC route because I wanted to save some $$$, and now I'm doing a transition program for my BSN which is an extra year after my 18mo at KCC.
Same here! Once i learned about the bridge from the ADN to BSN, my goal was to get in the ADN since its cheaper... & i also heard KCC is a really good program (my dad and auntie attended back in the day lol). But yeah, i wont give up! I'm just scared that its going to take me a really long time to get in.. I'm 19 & i don't want to be waiting a long time i know its no rush, but i'm just really hoping i get in the first time!
19? You're still so young! Don't let that stop you from doing what you want and taking the route that was intended! I started the program at 22! And was 2nd youngest in my class.
Like I said, there are also other programs if you really don't want to wait but it doesn't hurt to apply and see where it takes you... KCC or not, nursing is such a rewarding profession. Good luck!!!
Thank you so much! Whatever it takes, i'll be a nurse someday! I'll keep you updated!
Hi there anybody! If you could reply, that'd be great lol do you guys think I should apply for the PRCN as well as the ADN? or try for the ADN first? That's my first choice and I'm not sure if I should apply to both, since I know the PRCN program will be a longer route for me to take...

Hi Kayla,
I applied for 2014 spring and I was wait listed and unfortunately wasn't picked out. They only accepted 18 students because of issues with instructors. I called today and they said that has been fixed and should be accepting more than 18 now.
Here were my stats when I applied :
pre-req gpa: 3.65
only had one co-req completed
teas: 80%
no cna or work experience.
I am am also applying for fall 2014 hoping this better my chances since I now done with all co-reqs. From what I know having a teas score in the 80s is really competitive and also having all your co-reqs done. Good luck!
Hi Ellers! I'm so sorry to hear that... Don't worry though, I'm pretty sure I won't get in the first time... Not to be negative or anything lol what are your stats now? If i don't get in, I'm probably going to retake some of my classes and the TEAS test since my score was low... If you don't mind me asking, how did you study for that test?
I don't know what my pre-req gpa is cuz it's not showing any changes but my co-req gpa is 4.0. All pre-req and co-req completed (you get extra points for having everything completed) and no work experience or cna but 80% teas. That was my second time taking it. The first time I received a 74 or 76 can't remember.
I bought the the book and the 2 online test. To me it helped a lot n I also bought other supplement books but just all of practice test. I took a practice every week for a month and I created pneumonics especially for the science section.
I am retaking 3 of the classes I got a B in this semester other than those 3 classes I have all A's.
i would suggest retaking those classes n the teas. Anything in the 80s n up is really competitive.

Try apply for both! PRCN is a great program. It might be a longer route but you would gain more knowledge and experience. Yes there's only 18 of us in ADN now . It's so competitive. You might wanna get all the co-reqs done before applying and get your CNA training while waiting. Good luck!!
