Hi everyone! So, I was just wondering if any of you guys know my chances in getting in the ADN program at KCC. I'm applying for Fall of 2014 and to be honest, I'm not really confident about my application... Just thinking about applying makes me nervous just because I know how competitive it is. Also, if you guys think applying for the PRCN program for KCC is a good idea also. Please let me know, thank you guys so much!
Cumulative GPA: 3.6
Pre-req: 5 A's and 5 B's
Co-req: Only completed one with an A (taking the other one this semester)
TEAS score: 71.3%
No work experience
For math: I tried solving all the example problems and did the comprehensive test at least 5 times. For science, I read it at least five times. I tried to make flashcards but I was halfway done. I did the comprehensive test plenty times. And aside from the TEAS reviewer, I also use NLN reviewer for science only. I took NLN last year as well but I didn't have much time to prepare. I passed math and science but not english/vocabulary.
I didn't even bother to read the reading comprehension. I did the english and language once. How is the nursing program at Chaminade? and how much lol
oh my gosh that's alot of reading... lol I took notes on every page of the book & just read it before i took the test. To be honest, i thought i was gonna get a better score than what i actually received =/ i was thinking about doing the NLN, but i don't want to study for another thing, when i already studied the TEAS and know what that exams like. I hear Chaminade is really good even though its a new nursing program :) the only difference is, is that it's a 4 year program versus 3 years if you were to do the ADN-BSN transition or straight to the BSN at Manoa :) it's pretty pricey, i think around the $20k range? I'm not too sure, i have to research more about it lol but yeah, i don't want to keep re-applying for years and years... that would just discourage me more lol
Hi guys! If you are thinking about taking Pharm203 online, if you cannot get into the Maui college class, a bunch of people I know recommended taking Beale online or face-to-face at WCC. I am retaking pharm online with Beale right now and she is very helpful. I can tell that she really cares about our education and she gives a lot of resources and extra credit opportunities. The first time I took pharm was at KCC and the structure of 4 different instructors was just horrible for me lol. My main goal is KCC too! If I do not get in this fall semester I am going to try again for KCC and also Manoa for spring 2014. I was unsure about whether I should take the CNA class too, but with all the waiting we do we might as well. It gives our application a boost too
Thank you for the information! Yes, I think you should do the CNA course :) I was really hesitant about taking it too, but now that I think of it, it won't really hurt to do it. The counselor said that the CNA course will not only give us extra points on our application, but it will also teach us the skills we'll need to know or do a few weeks into the program if we do get accepted :) that way, we would actually have some experience versus the people who haven't done the CNA course :)
Np! Thanks for the info from the counselors about competitive scores. Even though there are 150-250+ people applying for the program, I know that a lot of those people are nonresidents so that should increase our chances! I hope not too many people apply lol.... but with them lowering the minimum TEAS score to 65 I'm sure there will be a lot more applicants. I just got my first job as a CNA in December, but I'm so glad that I did because it's such a learning experience. I really enjoy it though! It really motivates me to become a nurse. April needs to hurry on up lol
Oh good for you! The job could write you a letter of rec, which would also give you more points on your app! I'm really hoping I at least have a chance at getting in lol i don't fall into any of the competitive categories, which include the TEAS score, pre-req GPA, and if you have a CNA certificate lol did you take the TEAS test? If you did, what did you get on it? I'm gonna retake mine in April just in case :) I started studying for it again yesterday & i'm already tired of reading it lol But yeah, April does need to hurry up! lol One of the administrators I talked to from the nursing department said that the letters should come in around late March or early April :)
Gahhh the wait though -_-; lol
I took the TEAS right before the feb 1 app deadline and got a 82. The official study guide really helped me! If I don't get accepted I will retake it too. I know my prereq GPA of 3.4 is not competitive but I really don't want to retake those classes.. good luck studying! :) I heard that the practice tests are useful, but I haven't done them, I studied really last minute and just read the parts that I knew I needed help with (science, lol)
omg that's a really good score! i'm so jealous! lol I studied too, i actually made a study guide for myself & did one of the practice tests i still got a low score! lol i'm seriously hoping i get a better score or else, i'd be wasting my money.. I have a pre-req gpa of 3.4 too; i thought it was going to be a 3.6, but one of my instructors didn't give me the A he said he was gonna give me
i'm debating if i should re-take the classes i got a b in, but that's alot of money..

i know what you mean about feeling hopeless! lol most times, i feel so discouraged because i see people with good GPA's and good test scores, but still didn't get in
i always see people with better stats than mine, which makes me feel like i'll never get in lol but yeah, i was going to apply for the PRCN too, but i figured to try take the path i originally want to take (which is the ADN-BSN transition from KCC to Manoa) for one year, then if i don't get in within this year, I'll just do Chaminade :) How did you study for the TEAS test? I might take it next month and i really want to get at least an 80%...
