KCC ADN and PRCN Program

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

Hi everyone! So, I was just wondering if any of you guys know my chances in getting in the ADN program at KCC. I'm applying for Fall of 2014 and to be honest, I'm not really confident about my application... Just thinking about applying makes me nervous just because I know how competitive it is. Also, if you guys think applying for the PRCN program for KCC is a good idea also. Please let me know, thank you guys so much!

Cumulative GPA: 3.6

Pre-req: 5 A's and 5 B's

Co-req: Only completed one with an A (taking the other one this semester)

TEAS score: 71.3%

No work experience :(

I took zoology 142 lecture last summer & it was not easy! lol I totally regret taking that class over the summer cause you're right.. It is alot of material to cover for a short period of time! Hmm.. maybe i'lll retake psychology just because zoology can be really difficult & if I end up getting a b again, i'd just be wasting my money. For math and microbiology, they aren't my strongest subjects either..

I took micro last summer at LCC. It was an easy A. Open books/ notes during exam. Are you done with pharm 203? I'm taking it this summer at windward if KCC won't offer the online class.

I'll look into that! When i took microbiology, my teacher was pretty hard... Well not hard, but she didn't teach very well, so when it came to the tests, I barely knew anything! I was surprised I actually passed with a b lol i'm taking pharm 203 now! I'm liking the class since it's online and the tests are open notes :) plus you can retake them until you get a perfect score :) have you thought about getting certified as a CNA to help get in the program? I'm so torn... i'm not sure if i should take a nurse aide course in the mean time...

Who's your instructor for pharm 203? I am planning to take it this summer. I like open notes  and Online as well. Ya, you should try. Prof H. Kae from LCC is really good. Lots of extra points and very organize. My CNA license expired a year ago. But the counselor told me "it's Ok" as long as I have CNA experience within the last 3 years.

my instructor is Steven Farmer from Maui college! It's a great class! I definitely recommend him :) I actually talked to a councelor today at KCC and they gave me a list of CNA courses :) I chose the professional healthcare educators in Waipahu, since the tuition isn't that bad and it's the closest one I can do before summer starts :) & it's only on the weekend, so it fits my schedule perfectly! I forgot to ask, did you apply for KCC 2014 ADN program??

Yay thanks. I'll take his class this summer. No I did not apply for ADN. I don't think I'll make it with a C. I also talked to a counselor today trying to find out what my chances are. She told me to just give it a try. Maybe I will renew my CNA license too. It's been 4 years since i took the class. I'll take the TEAS exam next week. Good, you're taking the CNA class somewhere else. KCC is more expensive.

you went to see a counselor today? So did I! lol I wanted to figure out how many people they'd be accepting and if it's the right choice to do my CNA in the mean time :) i also emailed one of them & they said they usually accept around 30-40 people each semester... Did you take the teas already? If so, what was your score?? Mine was 71.3%, but i'm probably gonna retake it this summer

No I didn't go to KCC. I only talked to one of the counselor on the phone. Really, they're only accepting 30-40 students per semester? Is that for ADN program? I took TEAS last year. I got 82.

Yes that's for the ADN program :) omg thats a great score! The counselor told me competitive scores are between 75-85 & gpa is competitive around 3.6.. Are you going to go for the ADN program for KCC spring 2015?

I got lucky I guess. But I do have a C zoo141. I took it online. I took all my classes onlineā€¦ oh except for Chem 151. I took it in class at HCC (Prof Rubio). I'm going to submit my application soon before april 15 for PRCN program. If I don't get in, I'll apply for ADN and PRCn again next year. And possibly take the class again.

oh that's good! If i don't get in for the ADN this fall semester, I'll probably re-apply again, along with UH Manoa and possibly Chaminade. My main goal is to try to get in KCC this year and Chaminade is my back up plan :) I'm in no rush, but I don't want it to be years until I get into the program because I'd be wasting my time and money... Should I retake my TEAS in April or should I do it during the summer? I have time during the summer to study, but then again who wants to study on break? lol plus, i might do summer school, so i'm not sure...

You are a hard- working student. I'm sure you'll get in. Me too, I'm not in a hurry. My goal is really to get in for ADN or BSN at UH but if it takes a year or two to wait, I might as well apply for Practical nursing program and work my way up. I heard it is easier to get in at Manoa if you're an LPN. LPN-RN-BSN transition is longer than going straight to ADN/BSN but it is very competitive. I feel hopeless lol.
