Kaplan or UWorld?

Published

I have been using Kaplan for quite some time. My grades used to be terrible, but have improved quite a bit. For example, I just took question trainer #4 and got a 70.7. But now that my grades have improved, the rationales seem to be lacking for me. I have read a hit in here about how great UWorld's rationales are and was wondering if I should drop Kaplan and study with UWorld. I test in 13 days. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'm getting discouraged. The majority of my UWorld grades have been good, if not really good. But I get the occasional crappy grades. Like my last two test were below the average. I have been studying every single rationale, right or wrong. To say the least, it is not confidence inspiring for my test, which is now 6 days away.

Dont be discouraged by your scores! I would occasionally score 40s even up until my NCLEX and I passed with 75 questions. You're doing the right thing by reading all of your rationales. That is what's most important!

I am in the same boat as you ... studying for LPN Nclex but UWORLD is for RN . I emailed UWORLD and they said in early 2016 there will be a UWORLD for LPN . But there were a lot of people that use it for the LPN just the score of practice is so much different. So you have to be careful when answering questions. As a LPN you work under the RN so you get the more directions from you RN .

I did all of UWorld's Qbanks and remediated all the content I missed or needed brushing up on.

Then practiced Kaplan's decision tree for strategies. I took those strategies and redid Uworld's Qbank giving myself a personal goal of 70% or better.

I passed NCLEX in 80 questions

Note: I was scoring 45% on Uworld (because of the SATA) and 50-55% on Kaplan Qbanks.

Don't worry about your scores! Read and understand the rationales (make index cards if you have to). I never scored above 55% in the UWorld Qbanks. Uworld's content prepared me on what to expect!

I appreciate all of ya'lls encouragement. It really is helping. It's hard to describe being confident yet scared out of your ever-loving mind. I've already failed twice, so even though I'm more prepared now, it's still a VERY real concern. I have 6 days. Starting Thursday I have off for four days prior. I. Looking at 12 hour days those days. I'll study very little the day before. Just hope it all works out!

Also, take notes on, "Why I got this question wrong?" Did I not really patient was bleeding? Was it a judgement error like IV ABX for Vancomycin takes top priority? ... etc.

I always study why I get every question wrong and how I got the right ones right. I did that with all of the Kaplan qbank trainers. Did every single one of them. But UWorld has kicked my butt! So much harder...

I agree. Uworld is so precise, but man it has taught me a ton. I love that they have so many SATA questions, it's good practice for NCLEX. I also have used ati throughout my program so I hope that'll help too when I test.

Free week trial went out during a test this morning, but I did pretty decent. Somewhere around 60-65, but couldn't get my grade. Went to Kaplan to do a quick 30 question test. Got a 73.3. Already a marked improvement having used UWorld!

When I was studying for my NCLEX I combined Kaplan + Hurst. My friend bought Kaplan and I bought Hurst. Hurst did little for me as I was not lacking in content, Kaplan helped as it showed me how to answer tricky questions and SATA questions. Anytime I got a question wrong I would open my big ole med-surg book and understand the rationale until I could recite it to my puppy. Good luck. Never heard of UWorld, is this a East or West coast thing? Hurst is REAL popular in the south.

Good luck on your test! I'm doing u world as well... And so far I'm really enjoying how in-depth it is with the rationales. I've failed 3 times.... And I totally get the freaking out aspect of taking this test. Keep us posted on how WELL you do.
