I have been using Kaplan for quite some time. My grades used to be terrible, but have improved quite a bit. For example, I just took question trainer #4 and got a 70.7. But now that my grades have improved, the rationales seem to be lacking for me. I have read a hit in here about how great UWorld's rationales are and was wondering if I should drop Kaplan and study with UWorld. I test in 13 days. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I have been using Kaplan since I was in school (graduated May '14). I just never utilized it the way I was supposed to. Once I actually started doing what I was supposed to, my grades started improving and have remained pretty consistent.
At one point I tried Hurst, but found it too "corny." In MY opinion, it was a waste of money. But if it works for some, that's awesome!
I started UWorld today and got a 62 on my first test. It said the average was 53. So I guess I'm on the right track. But dang....those rationales! That's what I've been needing/wanting!
Hi Mr.Popeye,
Like you I just took the NCLEX yesterday failed! I used other materials to study but I relied mostly on Kaplan QBank. At the beginning of the QBank, I found the questions extremely challenging. But halfway through the Qbank, my QBank scores improved. I was getting the 65% and the QTrainers were starting to look easy. I felt confident the day before the exam. When I did the NCLEX, OMG! It was nothing like the Kaplan, just a few questions here and there.
I would take Faelyn's advice. I would do UWorld as well. Faelyn failed her first attempt taking the Kaplan and passed the NCLEX on second attempt. I guess Faelyn's using use of UWorld and passing it is evidence based. :)
UWORLD, Kaplans decision tree....but honestly study content first and have major pharm and labs on big note cards to study at random. DO Kaplan first then over and over again Uworld...my friend used a ton of Uworld and passed in 75 questions!!! I didn't do as much Uworld and had 200 questions but I passed. If do it over Id do only Kaplans question trainer 6 and then all Uworld
Thank you! I will.
Do far I can definitely say that UWorld is a lot tougher. The questions seem to be much similar to the NCLEX Than Kaplan. And again, those rationales are top notch!
Just hope it's all worth it in the end. For SO many reasons, I don't want to fail again. I don't have text anxiety itself. Just want to pass it for so many reasons.
On my second attempt, I ran the clock out at 6 hours and 235 questions. So I was close!
I'm glad I ran across this thread. I just finished nursing school last week (hallelujah!) and start the Kaplan review course next week through my school. I am contemplating doing Hurst as another resource as I have heard that its is great for content. Now i'm thinking about looking into UWorld since there are so many good reviews about it.
So, UWorld, or Hurst?
Faelyn
