Kaplan or UWorld?

Published

I have been using Kaplan for quite some time. My grades used to be terrible, but have improved quite a bit. For example, I just took question trainer #4 and got a 70.7. But now that my grades have improved, the rationales seem to be lacking for me. I have read a hit in here about how great UWorld's rationales are and was wondering if I should drop Kaplan and study with UWorld. I test in 13 days. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I passed my exam at 76 items and I only used UWORLD. Reading the rationales is like reading the book. It's a wise choice of reviewer!

I had a friend tell me today, after I posted this, that her grades on Kaplan were great. But when she used UWorld for a week, her Kaplan readiness test was basically a joke it was so easy. I'm thinking I may go ahead and forego the last 3 trainers on Kaplan and go with UWorld. I mean hell, I've even done every single qbank question that Kaplan has!

I have experience with both and in my honest opinion stick to UWorld. The rationales are just so detailed and easy to understand. The last question trainer from Kaplan is miles behind the Qbank for UWorld.

Don't know if I should be scared by that or not! Haha

We get caught up in numbers and percentages a lot. We often neglect the idea that the most important aspect of any review, or learning for that matter, is remediation and truly understanding the content/rationales. Just remember that. I've made that mistake twice and hopefully I learned that lesson this time around and hopefully I have some good news on the way. Best of luck to you.

I'm sure you do have great news! I used to be worried by getting better grades in Kaplan. Then the more I reviewed the rationales, the more I started to "get it." I may never get test grades in the 80's, but if I can stay where I've been and do as well on the big test, I'll be fine!

I've tried both Kaplan and UWorld and Uworld definitely helps you understand why you got the question wrong and more. Once you keep doing the questions and reading the rationales you'll get used to answering the questions which is a good thing because Uworld is hard, much more similar to NCLEX than Kaplan. My main study source other than reviewing the Hurst book was Uworld and I passed my second time with 75 questions. When I studied Kaplan for my first attempt, I found it only helped me just a little. Go with Uworld!

I've used nothing but Kaplan until now. I've failed my test twice, but I don't think it was because of Kaplan. The first time I made the assumption that nursing school prepares you to take the exam. I was wrong. So then I retested two months after. Finished at 235 questions and 6 hours. So I was there. Just not good enough. Then I came to the realization that I just wasn't prepared. THIS time.....I feel different. In a good way. Still scared out of my mind, but different. The more I have studied the more I realize that Kaplan's rationales have been lacking. Then I hear all of this about UWorld, so I am literally about to sign up for it right now! Hope it works!

MrPopeye I wish you the best of luck on the exam this time around..You are almost there!

I appreciate it!

I say Uworld. I haven't used Hurst, but I think Uworld is great. I am doing well and I hope it's enough to pass my RN exam. I failed once already, but was not using Uworld. I belong to a Uworld Facebook group and it is great. Many people say the NCLEX is so similar, which makes me hopeful I can pass it. I test again December 19th and really hope to write RN after my name.
