Hello allnurses.com!!! I just enrolled in kaplan and have completed my first 3 question trainers. My scores are
QT1 53
QT2 57
QT3 60
still have to do my diagnostic exam.
I was wondering if anyone who was successful with kaplan with these scores passed the NCLEX. This is my third attempt at the NCLEX. I am very stressed. I have come very close to passing both times. I have been watching the content videos and following along in the text Kaplan sends. I just dont know what to think or do anymore. I havent started the classes yet but I am just soo stressed and discouraged. If anyone can give me any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
I used Kaplan and ONLY Kaplan online. I felt that the lecture content plus the book really helped to show you the important things to know and not the unnecessary things like Saunders did. I believe getting high 50s-low 60s is totally fine because that what I was getting and I passed the NCLEX the first time with 100 questions. Don't worry, keep practicing questions and you will start being able to see patterns! :) It helps a lot in the NCLEX because some of the content of the NCLEX I never even heard of so I think being able to make an educated guess is very important in the NCLEX and Kaplan was perfect for that.
I just took my diagnostic exam and scored a 64% I think I actually mixed up what I was supposed to do before the class starts which is the diagnostic test first and then trainers 1-3. Regardless, I dont think it really mattered what order I did them in since I have been reading and following the lectures online. I hope Kaplan can really help me finally pass the NCLEX!!!
This has been a very difficult journey for me and I just want to pass this already!!
I know how you feel. But pleaseeee don't give up! Never have a day you dont answer questions, review a content or listen to an audio lecture. Really understand what you're reading. If you have enough time, go over and over the materials again. Practice makes perfect. I've been reviewing for about a month and half but only been seriously reviewing in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Be seriously confident and believe you can do it. I know that is what I've been implanting in my mind.
Thanks dlc17. It's just been soo hard and I have been overwhelmed to the max!!! I won't give up. I didnt go through all the blood, sweat, and tears through nursing school for nothing!! lol Something's gotta give!! I wish you best of luck in your boards!!

Hello katyn213, it makes me feel good when you stated you used Kaplan only. I'm done with all the qbank questions and I'm left with the QT7 which I am planning to take tomorrow. I plan to retake those questions I missed in the qbank and probably re do the QT 7 if I still have enough time. I have NCLEX 3500 which I haven't really answered a lot of it. It's crazy, sometimes I have palpitations as my test date approaches. All of the people I know who took Kaplan passed with a 75 questions. They said all the studying they've done wasn't really helpful and that NCLEX gave them totally random questions. I really hope that the Kaplan type questions prepares me to face NCLEX. I've mainly been answering quesitons and before I go to bed, review some content or listen to an audio lecture which I happen to fall asleep by the way.
Just thought I might want to share this to those who are taking NCLEX, there is an app if you have an iphone called NCLEX RN and their questions I believe are Kaplan. I think I paid less than $5. When I first answer their questions, I thought, boy this are hard, so I left it out for awhile until I came back to it last week. At first, I was like no way, this isn't the same question I just took earlier from question trainer 6. I've done about 300 and I'm honestly serious, there are plenty of questions I've answered from the Kaplan test bank. The reason why I am sharing this because I think it's a great deal. You dont really have to spend $450 just to get access to Kaplan type of questions. The only problem is, I tried searching it again on app store but I couldn't find it anymore as I was curious to find out the information of the application. When I bought it, I didn't bother reading who created it or whatever. All i remember was it had a good user reviews.
Anyway, thank you so much katyn213. I am staying positive with this. Been telling myself I'll be an RN pretty soooonnnn!

Wow, a 64%? That is awesome! You did great! Yeah, reading/reviewing contents and listening to audio lectures or even talking it out yourself really increases your knowledge. I mean you can't go wrong with that and with the Kaplan questions they have for us, I say are very good and challenging. I like it. It will make you think more than 10x. I surely hope myself too that Kaplan will help us pass NCLEX. You should have enough time to really review the answers you got wrong and go over the topic in the Kaplan book. I've been reviewing for a month but I'd say seriously been studying for 2 weeks. If I haven't said it already, do not leave a day without challenging yourself. Answer questions and read/review contents. Goodluck to 'ya! You and I can do it!!!!
I believe being in the high 50's and low 60's is good.. but you need to review the content. I suggest going through your kaplan videos for areas that you are weak on. Look at your analysis for every qbank or qtrainer that you've done and see which ones you score 50 or lower. focus on them. read that part of the book or watch lectures online.I had lacharity also but I never really used it. Nothing really prepared me for NCLEX.. i found that most of the questions i had are not the ones i studied for. I just know for sure that infection control will be in the exam. Study the mnemonics.
Remember that this is a minimum competency exam... just relax and learn how to control your anxiety. :) Stay Positive! You can pass this! You will pass this!
FYI i also was scoring low in Kaplan... i was getting demoralized every time i take a qtrainer esp the last 2 ones. =/ Don't be discouraged.. but rather look at it as a challenge to do better.
Good luck!
Hello mzznurse, thanks for threading. Last night, when I read your message, I immediately went back and listen to the audio version of the topic I was weak at. LOL. I kind of did that for awhile. I stopped because I thought they were pretty darn long and listening and following it in the book I thought was a lot. BUT I went back though since last week. Anyway, all I can do right now is do as much as I can. Never waste a time which reminds me, I need to go back and answer 'em questions now. I'll probably won't be saying much out there from now on because I need to use the remaining time I have. Although, I probably would still be reading some post of those who made it. It just uplifting and one way for me to stay positive and look forward to taking it. Thanks again! :)
Here is what I did with Kaplan:
Diagnostic Test
Live Online Class
QT1,QT2,QT3 (lowest 57 - highest 67)
Watched EVERY SINGLE CONTENT VIDEO and followed along in their book
Readiness test = 68
300 question from the QBANK (averaged about 65%)
All the other question trainers
Took my test and passed with 75 questions.
Two people in my class rescheduled their tests (only by 8 days) because they were not getting the suggested 65% on their Kaplan stuff. They were glad they took the extra few days -- both passed w/ 75 questions.
I really think you need to do the rest of the question trainers. They get harder and longer. Also you MUST go through the questions after your practice tests. You paid good money for the Kaplan stuff I would use it ALLLLLLLLLLL Just my 2 cents.
Then go kick the butt of the NCLEX and skip down the happy road as an RN!!!! You can do this.

Thanks Dolcevita!
My class starts today. I got confused and did the first 3 question trainers first and then the diagnostic exam. Like I stated before, I dont think its a big deal since I had to do those 4 tests before the class started. The good news is my scores are improving since I have been watching the content lectures and reviewing my results on each exam and focusing on those weak areas. Here is the order of what I did.
Q1 53
Q2 57
Q3 60
Diagnostic 64
I start my class today. Hopefully Kaplan will help me pass my boards because I will be using it to the max!! This is my 3rd attempt at the NCLEX.
