Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.
Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!
I just got off the phone with my rep. He said all the LVN slots have been filled. And that now they are only taking alternates. Grrr does anyone know if thats true? I was planning on taking my KTP friday. Because of my work schedule I couldnt take it sooner. I m so bummed. I dont want to have to wait another 4 months. He said people are scoring extremely high in the 90's.
oops I messed up, I ment to put for the RN ADN program.
Ok I've come with news. I just got off the phone and talked with someone who is competent (or at least seemed to me). July 27th is the deadline to apply to the RN program. Tuesday or Wednesday they will start to notify people by telephone or paper mail if they got in or not. The September cohort is almost at capacity due to a high number of people who were accepted early. If you get chosen as an alternate, you still have a "very good chance" at getting into the September start date. This is because some people might have problems paying for school, choose a different program, etc... If you are selected as an alternate and they don't have space for you for Sept, you will be guaranteed a spot in for the next start date. You might have to fill out some paperwork again but you will be starting school in January. Hope this helps.

I haven't heard from my admin rep yet!
Hello everyone,I'm new to the forum and decided to join since I just got my acceptance package into the September class!!! :w00t:
I got early acceptance cause of the KTP test. Just wanted to meet some of my future class mates and ask anyone who is currently in the RN program how hard it is to work with the class schedule. I took all of my other classes (A&P, micro, english, sociology, psychology, speech) so I will only have my actual nursing classes. I know I was told to be open from 8am-7pm but is that typical for all you who are already in the program. Help! I wanna work and am looking for a job now don't want to start and have to quit later. Thank you!

hi Jime86
since you are finish with pre-reqs, i think your 1st semester you'll be in fundamentals of nursing or for short "fundes" and also a clinical which probably will take 8-10 hr 1 day a wk plus you have lab which is probably right after your fundes theory class. So i think you should be ok working until your 2nd semester (that semester is one of the toughest before the last one) but dont worry about it till it gets there. On your post it didnt mention you finished math (college algebra) so if you havent done that, then they will add that class too. If you have any questions please let me know
Fliptobenurse RN Kaplan grad May 2012
Thanks so much, fliptobenurse! That helps a lot. I passed the SLE with a 32 and the TEAS with a 77%. However, i plan on retaking the TEAS to get a higher score. I was also wondering about the medical experience. I was a part-time caregiver for almost a year for the father of a family friend before he passed. I was going to submit a letter of employment from the family i was caregiving for, stating that I was their father's caregiver, the period of time i was, and what my caregiving entailed. Do you think they would accept that? any info about that would be great. Thanks so much for your help and if everything goes well i will be at Kaplan for the upcoming May term. please get back to me at your best convenience. Best.
Man its been a while since ive wrote on this site. Aww im sorry i never came back to this site to check if you replied or not and i know its WAY late but im hoping that you're in Kaplan right now and are about to finish the program. If you are, let me know I just graduated from Kaplan in May

Hey everyone... I'm currently in the Kaplan ADN program. This is my last semester so only 6 weeks more to go!! I came in as an LVN so those who have questions regarding transition I can answer some questions. I also have some friends who were traditional so I can help out with those questions as well. Good luck and let me know if you guys have any questions

I am not sure about the LVN program. I know that all the RN applicants will be called on/after the 27th whether or not they got into the program. Sorry to hear about your situation but don't give up. Take the KTP when you're fully prepared and get the best possible score. People drop out for many different reasons, so I suggest you apply. Best of luck!
