Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

Hi queen2bee,

Personally, I am not sure how alternates work, but I do remember reading something earlier in the thread that gave reference to the alternate list. Best of luck to you :-)

I have a questions for the students that have already started the ADN program at Kaplan.

So.... I have been looking through the threads to get a better idea of the days and hours of classes. I have a sample list, but not a list of the regular schedule. I was told that the LVN-RN role transition class is always on Friday's? Is this true and does anyone have an idea of the time?

Also- for those that had to take micro. Was this class Monday and Wednesdays and what were the times? Lastly- was micro held in term 1?

Thanks a million for any insight that you may have

Good Morning All. I am new to the forum. I am a Kaplan Grad from the LVN program and CNA. I am finally going back to school. I am looking into the ADN program at Kaplan. Everything is turned in transcripts, diploma, letters from employers. All I need is a 90 on the KTP and hopefully I am in. Any study tips, suggestions? I have never taken it. I took the TEAS last year and scored a 88 but never continued with the APP process. Whats on the test? Can we use calculators? Help Me please! I have two weeks to take the test before the deadline and I dont know where to start studying... Thanks

Oh and does anyone know how old your GE's can be? I am not stressing over that.

And Good Luck to everyone out there!

I think mine told me to be free between 7am-8pm because class could be at anytime. but I do plan to work I can't afford not to. I'm looking for a nocshift right now and I'm starting home health too.

ah yes, the always changing schedule... the earliest I had class was 0800, and the latest was also until 8pm. But it's different every 16 weeks, it changes.

Also, during your senior semester you will do a preceptorship and you can be assigned to 12 hour days or nights, or 8 hour days or nights.

Hi cupcakeB-

I am replying on my iPhone, so please excuse any typos. Sounds like you did well on the TEAS, so chances are, you will also do well on the KTP. I do know that you cannot bring a calculator or use your phone. You have 45 min per section to include: reading comp, math and writing.

As far as study material. Perhaps any teas prep books and the packet that Kaplan provides.

I hope this helps.

Happy nursing:-)

If it's not too late, I have the KTP study guide. If you still need it just PM me your info and I will shoot it right over to you.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and decided to join since I just got my acceptance package into the September class!!! :w00t:

I got early acceptance cause of the KTP test. Just wanted to meet some of my future class mates and ask anyone who is currently in the RN program how hard it is to work with the class schedule. I took all of my other classes (A&P, micro, english, sociology, psychology, speech) so I will only have my actual nursing classes. I know I was told to be open from 8am-7pm but is that typical for all you who are already in the program. Help! I wanna work and am looking for a job now don't want to start and have to quit later. Thank you!

Contrats to you! I am curious to see what you got in your RN student packet? I have a packet that says student packet with a date for me to report for orientation. It has a bunch of other paperwork involved too but nothing that explicitly states that I have been accepted. I have a BA in history, finished all the classes you did including math, and scored 98% on KTP. Just curious.

if u got 98 on the ktp and u have a ba u should be in! I have that same packet too with my orientation date but i got that from my rep when I applied and filled out paperwork. we have a few more days til we find out who got in the program....for me anyway lol I know a lot of people on here got in early.

I just got off the phone with my rep. He said all the LVN slots have been filled. And that now they are only taking alternates. Grrr does anyone know if thats true? I was planning on taking my KTP friday. Because of my work schedule I couldnt take it sooner. I m so bummed. I dont want to have to wait another 4 months. He said people are scoring extremely high in the 90's.
