Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

Everything has been given to Kaplan- transcripts and diploma! So here is what my rep told me.

1st, everything in the packet is on a TBD basis. For example, tuition is listed as the full price. My rep said once Kaplan figures out how many classes are transferable from my university the price will be lower. Big Plus! The same rule she said applied to the graduation date. My expected grad date is 09/2014 but if the classes transfer then I may have an earlier end date.

2nd, the drug/background test for me needs to be completed after 07/27/12 (The day we find out if we are accepted into the program and I have 60 days into the start of the program to complete it. They don't want me to shell out money for a background check if I am not in the program.

3rd, the physical needs also to be taken care of ASAP from the date you've been accepted. Now when she said ASAP I don't know if she was just trying to get me to get it in.

So this is all the information that I got from her. I have a whole folder of information that she gave me and if you need any more information or even a clarification just let me know. :)

Hi missellamae! Perhaps the letter was a mistake on the dates. I do recall having 2 weeks off for winter break and 1 week off each Spring. This added a month to our evening VN program. I don't know, but just thinking....if you start in September, you get 2 weeks off in December, then a week in March/April. That's 3 weeks plus you will go through another Winter and Spring break, adding an additional 3 weeks. So with no other holidays, that adds aprox. 6 weeks to grad date. So, instead of May could it be mid July? That is still not September '14 though.Have you talked with your rep about the letters?

I haven't talked with her about the letters, I don't really care for her but I guess I'll email her today. Once I get an answer I'll let you know!

I think I've taken care of everything except the drug screen but she told me and another girl to get it done after July 17th..but what your rep told u makes sense if you aren't accepted you should spend that money..you know? I'll try and email my rep today to see what's going on!

Contacting the rep probably is your best bet:-)

Just got a response from my rep via email...she changed her story, originally she told me

July 15th for my background and drug screen but now she said July 27th so I can make sure I'm in the program.

And for my transcript letter she said it was just notifying me what was accepted..which was sociology, english and my VN courses I took a few years ago.

She said now I just need to wait til July 27 to see about getting me into the program :)

I'm nervous still!

Awesome! Looks like we are going to have a nice little one month wait before we know anything. My rep teased me with some mandatory dates and told me to make sure to leave those days open.

Yesterday was my first day exploring SD and it really grew on me for the short 24 hours I spent there. Now I really hope I really get in... and you too!

The step up is a day program, no evenings:-( I'm not positive but I heard that clinicals are 12 hour shifts and mostly held during the day and some weekends. I hope this helps:-)

Quick question: The tuition I singed for was 50k. Does that mean 50 for the entire two year RN program or was it 50k for that year?

The entire program is 50k unless u have some stuff to transfer over or LVN credit :)

That's a huge relief!! I am transferring Spch, math, eng, micro, physio, anat, soc, and psy. I was thinking they might reject me because they wouldn't be making as much money off me compared to someone who doesn't have GEs done. How long after you applied did you receive the letter in the mail about your units being accepted?
