Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

nope nothing yet :(. What was the RN infor session you are talking about mrs jones? Is it the first info session that was really short where they talked about what we needed to get in?

So 8 more days.. well technically 7 because i am not counting sunday the 15th..hehe.. Does anyone know how we will be finding out? would it be a phone call, letter, or both? I was reading previous threads and couple of ppl mentioned getting letters in the mail. Just out of curiosity

well ---- said that if you get accepted you will be getting a phone call by your admissions rep and a letter stating you got in and if you get rejected, then you will be getting a call from the DON. Thats what i heard...8 MORE DAYS (technically 7 haha)

I believe you get a call and a letter in the mail. The call will come first and the letter will come a lil later. Thats what it sounds like in the past threads. And ull still get a call and a letter if u get rejected. I really hope we all get in.

I am a current ADN student at Kaplan. I'll try to cover as much as I can, I have read the last 5-10 pages of posts and wanted to (maybe) answer some questions. The program is strict. You can not miss more than 2 classes/clinicals per semester or you will be dropped from the program. You do have to have at least a 75% in the class to pass. If you fail 2 classes, you are dropped from the program as well. They suggest that you not work while attending their program, but I have worked fulltime all the way through so far. Most classes are in the morning or early afternoon, but the latest I have been in class is til 6pm. Clinicals can be at anytime. As far as financial aid, they will not talk to you until you are admitted into the program. They will help you get grants and loans, however if there is a cost which is not covered, you will have to make monthly payments, and from what I understand, some classmates have had payments around $1000 per month. As someone posted, there are many pros to the program and some cons. The biggest con is the scheduling, we do not get our class or clinical schedules far in advance, so it's hard to plan your life so to speak.

Good luck to all of you who have applied, and if you have questions, I'm more than happy to try to answer them.

What do you know about the TEAS score and how you get accepted to the program? From the students in your class what is the TEAS score range and how did you or they get in? After hearing about how we can get in, we'll worry about what goes on in the program!

Thank you for the advice lyndsey. I would never think nursing school would be easy. How did you get in? id you dont mind us asking. Did you get a pretty good teas score? We are still waiting for our acceptance. :(

(6 more day!)

I got an 86% on my TEAS testing. But from our DON she said anyone above a 75% will be concidered. It's based on a point system. I can't tell you how I got in, just know I got the call that I was accepted! When I applied, my application deadline was March 14th for the May 14th start date. It seems you all got a little more time for your application deadling. I got the call on April 2nd that I was accpeted into the program.

Again, good luck to all of you!

hey Mrs Jones

are you going to transfer your nursing classes from national university? i have fundamentals, pharmacology, med surg 1 & 2 but only going to credit pharmacology to start all over the nursing program

thnks lyndsey. I guess we will just have to wait. And if we do get accepted we wont ask-how we got accepted. lol.. 6 more days.. :)

if its true that anyone over 75% is considered then we are pretty much set! Whats up class mates hahah

i really want to get in this program so i could quit my job, go on vacation and study hard. If i don't then i don't quit my job and i don't have a vacation and i have to work hard. so hopefully i get it.

the bad news is that i havent met anyone who got an 80% and got in. Well i haven't met anyone who got an 80%
