Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

Hey man or girl?

In my teas section just one person got higher than me. And there were about 15 people in my testing section. Are you a kaplan graduate?

PCAT is Patient Care assistant technician. And CNA is Certified Nursing Assistant. PCAT can work in a hospital and give out shots and do other things like that. CNA can't. But other than that theres not that much difference. At kaplan PCAT is 15000 and CNA is 6000 so thats another difference. PCAT takes about 8 months so...

I have CNA experience for about 6 months. And i graduated from Kaplan. Kaplan graduates has a priority for RN program. By the looks of the stacks it seems like 100-160. Maybe half of that are Kaplan graduates. maybe a quarter of those people got a score between 75-80 so i am still worried. Also i am sure theres a few people who failed the background check and urine drug test. about 60-70 people get in including alternates. Thats what i learned from the RN info section. But i was tempted to take the TEAS test again and i wish i did so i didn't have to be this stressed out about it.

My admission rep is ----. I worked with her at this school since CNA and she told me the same thing. Not to worry that i have a high score and that i am prob gunna get in. She even gave me a high five! so i think it will be ok. But my luck could be bad and have 80 people with 80% or higher. i hope we do get in. Actually it will be funny if we stressed out for nothing.

Specializes in none that i can think of right now.

Hey man or woman?

Well first off im a man haha. second off i didnt know they give priority to students who graduated from Kaplan lucky for you unlucky for me haha :crying2:. My axiety is kicking in. Im counting down the days till 8/15 to find the results but reading past posts, people got their results 7 days before the announcement day so hopefully we get are results early. what happens if we dont get in? 12 DAYS TO GO

I am glad I am not the only one freaking out ..I also got an 81% on my Teas test. My advisor told me not to worry about not getting in but i am still worried ..grrr... counting the days.. lets all count together? I applied for Sept. Can anyone let me know if they get accepted so i know when i would expect a call.

to kessy

ill definitely tell you if i get in or not if you tell me if you get in or not promise? hehe 11 DAYS TO GO :uhoh3:

Man thats making me feel better i think... That all the admission rep has confidence in us. I hope we find out soon! Kessy r u a kaplan grad?

I love this forum already lol.. Well yes I promise i will let you know if I get in or not fliptobern. I am definately counting down with you also. :).

Quicksilver- I never attended Kaplan before. I took all my prereq. at community colleges.

Have any of you attended Kaplan? I know they give priority to Kaplan students but i think they only save a couple of seats for them. Did they blank out the advisors names on purpose or ur posts? My advisor is- begins with and Ra ends with a Vae haha..

Btw is it just me or is the tuition pretty damn high? I know its a private instituition but DAMN.. I guess when i graduate i wont be seeing much of the money for awhile..haha.. Has anyone stumbled across grants for nurses? I am doing research but if i find something ill let you guys know.

Kessy and Fliptobenurse. Let me know if you guys get in too. Ill let you guys know too. I was a Kaplan Graduate and work as a Nurses' assistant. I think we all will be able to get in the program. Why else would our admission rep seem to say not to worry? April was my admission rep. and shes been supportive so far. I think if u have a Degree in something else that would be a big boost too.

I am in exactly the same situation right now guys! Waiting and hoping, it's all I can think about... And my rep that also starts with an r also told me not to worry:) I have an 83.5, so we'll see. About the money, like everything in life you just gotta weigh the pros and cons, and for me Kaplan has more pros, so if I get in I am going there! I'll let you guys know too, anything I find out. Hopefully it's before next friday, huh?

Ok ill let u guys know also.. And yes kaplan has more pros than cons. The 15th is on a sunday so hopefully they call us a little earlier. Hopefully we all get in so we can all be classmates..hehe.. :)

Yeah, it better not be the 16th!!! That would be awesome if we were all classmates:)

to everyone

yeah im totally hype about being classmates with all of you and i know the titution is high but it doesnt stand to what West Coast University charges.

Even though West Coast is a BSN program, they charge up to $130,000+ for 3 years its hella expensive. How do i know this? I was a student there *lighting sounds* haha. Anyways i was going there until i got kicked out of the school because of academic probation. I'm not stupid or anything its just that when you start taking the nursing courses, you are expected to pass there final test with a certain score. The test is called HESI and on each major nursing course you have to take it. If you dont pass the HESI, you fail the course and have to repeat it. So lets say if you are getting an A in the class and failed to pass the HESI (they give you 2 tries) then you automatically get an F in the class (stupid right?!?!?!). Anyways, you can only repeat 2 courses and if you fail the 3rd you are kicked out. As of June 16, 2010, i failed my 3rd course because of the HESI (btw i was getting an A in that course) and got kicked out. Now i owe the school $54,000 and have to pay it back in January unless i go back to school and just defer my loans.

Why am I telling you all this? Even though im hype of meeting interesting people like yourselves, but im worried i might not get in because I already attempted a nursing program and got kicked out. I dont want the DON to think, "well i shouldnt pick him cause he was stupid enough to get kicked out of a nursing program and NOW wants to apply to this one." I know there is no excuses to what has happened to me and I know it is not fair for people who hasn't even experience a nursing program, but I know in my heart I DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE.

Sorry this is really long i just need this out of my system. Anyways I wish all of you guys good luck and hopefully we can all become classmates. 10 DAYS TO GO!!! :D

Hey fliptobeanurse. The DON does not look at that at all. A lot of people are at Kaplan to start over and have the second chance. Yeah that sounds tough. Kaplan isnt that hard you just have to get a 75% or higher on each class and 77% or higher on anatomy psyology. And then you will be ready to take the nclex. Whats the passing rate of the program at west coast? Nursing school is hard, and its going to be hard. Kaplan is going to be hard. But as long as u work hard and to all "i wanna become a nurse" people, you got to work together sometimes. So if we get into the program im sure you'll make your moneys worth and pass the nclex! Dont worry you deserve to get in as much as all of us.
