Kaplan college in San Diego RN program

Published

Hi, I will be starting the RN program with Kaplan as soon as we relocate. My husband's in the Military so the wait lists at other colleges turned me away from them.

Do any of you go to Kaplan? If so, how did it work out for the student loans and stuff , I am confused. It seems as if tuition is around 45000 for the couple years of the program. I am eligible for the pell grant and the military grant of 3000 per year. But would the loans be able to cover everything else since it's a vocational school more than a traditional college? Thanks!

Well, I am also in a similar situation coming from National University, so when I do get in somewhere, I will let nothing come in my way (even a terrible teacher), and I agree that we have to work together! And it is going to be that hard anywhere, just in different ways, so let's hope for the best and I can't wait to finish what I started... so frustrated because it is really impossible to transfer in to the community colleges, but this is going to be quick! I can do anything for 20 months!

Yeah i agree with what quicksilver said. You dont have to worry about that. Hopefully this DON guys isnt an ********..haha.. $130 thous. is alot for a BSN. BTW, thanks for sharing your story. I was pretty embarassed when i gave them my transcripts becausse i failed a Physiology class. Only because i didnt show up to class cause of work. You can do the RN to BSN at alot of schools for under $25 thous., not sure what it is at University of Phon.

Hey Mrs. jones, were you in the BSN program at national university? If you were how was it while u were there?

ten days to go =). :nurse:

Hello everyone. I am also awaiting reply from Kaplan for the Sept 2010 ADN program. FYI for those that may want to know, the DON for Kaplan's ADN program is a woman. If anyone is interested in her name I have it, just didn't want to publicize her full name w/o permission. Well good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll be meeting one another soon.

Well NU was pretty good, really accelorated and tons of homework, and one teacher that was really crazy, but she doesn't work there anymore, so you should be O.k.

I also talked to someone who is in the program right now and she said they are accepting about 45 students, which sounds like alot at a time compared to some other programs, so hopefully we all have a good chance of getting in:)

Last week when I spoke to my administrator, Kaplan is accepting 60 students for Sept'10 ADN class. 15 are allocated for LVNs and the remainder for the rest of the applicants. Kaplan is using the multi-criteria admission process to select the candidates.

What is the multi criteria process? Like what exactly are they looking at, if you know it? I dont think it would make a difference if we knew who she was cause there really isnt anything we can do. :(. I guess all we can do is wait and hope for the best? hehe

The multi-criteria process is a point system used to determine points an applicant has accrued. Applicants get points for Gen Ed GPA, Pre-Req GPA, having a degree, attendance, TEAs score, SLEs score, being a Kaplan Alumni, life experience, and life experience in the Nursing field. A variety of things the DON is looking over.

Specializes in none that i can think of right now.

great a point system now im really worried :sniff: 9 MORE DAYS

My admission rep told me that the pre reqs gpa or any transfer credits does NOT help nor effect your application. Because kaplan's system is pretty fair. Students who did not go to college or went straight after highschool has the same advntage as someone who went to college for 3 years. The teas test is the biggest priority of getting in. Then its your experience in the field. If you are a kaplan graduate is a HUGE advantage. If u have a degree helps u bcuz u could use that as experience.

Also the RN info session explained it all too. If you went to the info session also helped your application. It is mandatory. I hope this helped and made sense. So pre reqs grades and other gpa does not effect your application. Unless you failed a class in kaplan.

O and dont forget kaplan is a for profit higher education college so being a kaplan grad is the way they can get easy money. But hey if thats how u can get in the rn program then why not?

Well nothing yet, huh? Hope everyone can relax a little and have a good weekend! Fingers and toes crossed:redpinkhe
